SteveON: The stylesheet is missing, its not an isp issue.

Correct. But it could be an ISP issue (DNS etc) not letting the CSS download.

If it's happening on multiple different browsers on your computer (and assuming your sister is connected through the same network), might be worth checking your hosts file and/or check that you aren't running anything that blocks certain IP addresses (e.g. peerblock).

In Chrome open the developer tools, (press: ctrl shift j) or find it from the menu > tools > developer tools.

Change to the network tab in the developer tools window, it's also useful to undock the dev tools from the main window, it's the bottom left icon.

Load facebook in the browser, you should see http requests listed in the developer tools.

Look for lines highlighted red or with error codes, take a screenshot post it here.

Should look something like this:

It looks like your browser is not able to download files from that location. Either it's being blocked or your connection has a problem finding a route to it.

Wouldn't be a DNS issue unless the CDN has just been moved... I would suggest it's a local issue, I am also on orcon and sometimes get the issue but only on days when the internet is really really slow. Try resting your network gear and the advice above usually fixes it.

Have you accessed facebook overseas? or used Opera? Because this may cause facebook to think you are on an overseas account, (Opera because they have a proxy in europe). It still thinks I am in the UK even though I got back 2 months ago and this can cause localised issues with their CDN.

We are having an internet issue, it is being sorted out by Orcon at the moment. We did have work done to our network, moving the broadband connection into a different room, right when this issue started. However, I don't see how that could be related to this issue.

I did a power cycle to both the router and modem, no luck.

When you said it works fine for your sister, is she on the same network/router as you?  If it's happening on just one browser, then it's almost certainly an issue with the browser settings/cache/cookies.  If it's happening on multiple browsers but only your machine, then there is a global connectivity problem affecting your PC only - as mentioned, I'd check the hosts file to make sure there aren't any spurious entries that would be blocking facebook, and I'd also check the router settings to make sure there aren't any IP filtering rules that have been applied to your internal IP address.

while away at my folks' house last week I had similar problems on their telecom connection (I am on telecom at home too) - it ended up just being DNS. I had specified long ago on my adapter different DNS to Telecom's and for some reason this worked at home but not away from home

Can you confirm:

1: Problem only happens on your machine not your sisters and she is at the same house using the same internet connection?

2: Problem happens in multiple different web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE) on your machine?

If both of those are true then it's probably dns cache on your machine or possibly firewall/anti virus software causing the issue.

To clear the dns cache on windows:

Open run menu (windows key + r) > type: cmd > hit ok > type: ipconfig /flushdns > hit enter

Note: On Windows 7 or Vista UAC may require admin elevation to run this, so from start search type: cmd then right click on "Comand Prompt" and select Run as Administrator to get a command window with elevated access.

If that doesn't help double check you don't have any security software that could be interfering eg: Zone Alarm, Norton, Mc Affee, Avast etc.

OK, thanks for the ongoing and apologies for the delay in replying.

To confirm, I have tested Facebook on 5 comps.

It seems it may be my account since I can log on to my parents account (shh don't tell them) and my sister can log on to her account on her account, all fine on her computer. When I try to login to my account, nope, not on here computer.

Just to add more confusion to the table, Facebook takes ages to load on my comp, and no account load.

We are getting moved to a cabinet next week, in an attempt to increase our speeds. We'll have to see what that does. To be honest, our connection is very hazy at this point in time. For example: liveleak.com, skydrive, orcon.net.nz none of these will load, just to mention a few.

I will continue to test my acc on other machine on me network, including different browsers.

I cannot test another connection for a couple of weeks since my school thinks it is appropriate to block Facebook, and the only other bband is at my beach house.

If I do find out what this issue is, I'll be sure to let you all know. Of course I still welcome your suggestions, and hope to get this mystery fixed!

1. She is using the same network, however it does happen on other machines, not just mine. (See my above post.

2. Yep, IE and Chrome

Tried the DNS flush, no luck. :(

Have you tried loading anybody else's account on your computer?

Did you check the hosts file (%systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts)?

Also, if you have access to a linux liveCD, you could boot into linux and see if you are still having the same issue - if so then it's potentially a router configuration issue specific to your IP address.
