batdan: I have a similar question. When I got ADSL installed Chorus accidentally connected me to Spark and connection was great with no errors. When I discovered Slingshot Global mode wasn't working was when I worked out I was on Spark and not Slingshot. Now I'm on Slingshot connection is OKish, but I do have heaps of errors on the line that I didn't see when on Spark.

Just wondering why it would be different Spark vs Slingshot?

Cheers

Chorus can't just "accidently connect you to Spark". If you had a Spark connection you clearly signed up as a Spark customer.

This is exactly what happened. This was a brand new connection with new wiring from the street, so no previous ISP. When first installed by Slingshot the connection was very unstable and unusable. Chorus were out multiple times and finally got it working and stable.

But - global mode was not working and troubleshooting lead me to discover that I was in fact on Spark, based on the IP address I was assigned as reported by whatismyip and also when I looked up owner of the netblock. I was surprised as well as PPP details were obviously set for Slingshot, but obviously not required in this case when connected to Spark.

I reported this back to Slingshot, who got Chorus back out and they reconnected me to Slingshot, but now seeing errors on the line. Line is reasonably stable but back to my original question, just wondering why the difference? Obviously connection from house to exchange is OK.

Thanks

They could have misjumpered to an intact spark connection. seeing as Spark do port based authentication a ppp session would have established.

I've just moved house and while we wait for UFB to get shifted to my provider I've been using the connection left by the old tenants. Port based auth so was just able to set up vlan10 and stick a ppp client on it and then free internets. Been going for about 3 weeks now haha.

See the Post by PeterReader above, Please review it and provide the INFO requested

Your ISP and plan
- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)
Naked Slingshot ADSL 2+ (ITU G.992.5) Annex A

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)
See below. Using a Fritzbox that gives better performance than supplied router. Errors also exist on Slingshot supplied.

- Your general location (or street)
Martinborough - South Wairarapa

- If you are rural or urban
Urban, just.

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin
Unknown

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service
ULL

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above
Yes, all isolation testing has been done. Only one phone jack with ADSL modem.
No phones connected in house.
