NzKaizer: I don't have a dynalink myself, I'm using the Orcon homehub, I can only comment on that d-link (not dynalink) modems struggle to sync on connection quite some distance from an exchange when compared to other modems, this is why d-link modems tend to drop connection more than other modems do. Back when I was using a d-link 502-t, randomly a day would come and it would drop connection every 30 minutes for the whole day, very annoying, but this homehub has being rather reliable, I've only lost connection once in the last 2 weeks and it was for 5 minutes. I might also add that any decent modem will sync around 15% higher than a d-link modem/router.

Expect you're right.   I'm just on 1km from our exchange, which is proberbly why I get constant sync rates of 18-20MB and no disconnects with my DLink.

I've heard from a friend who sells various modems, that the dynalink is the best all rounder that doesn't come back...

yes any other Dynalink modem except the RTA1320 is a good choice the 1320 has a bad habit of overheating and locking up and dying because of it. if you've ever taken one apart to take a look inside there is usualy a fair bit of room and it makes me wonder why manufacturers dont put a small heatsink on the main chip to help cool it, worked for me on my rta1320 i chopped the top where the vent is and used an old northbridge HS and some thermal epoxy to attach it to the main chipset inside it stopped the lock-ups and overheating

Hi Guys,
I too have been having trouble with constant dis-connections in the past few days (never happens normally). I am also using the Orcon Home Hub which I have now discovered is the problem. O.K it has been warm here in the past 2-3 days but nothing extraordinary. I have concluded the Orcon Home Hub is badly designed. The air vents are underneath the box!Surprised What happens when warm air gets sucked into these vents?...it heats up in the home hub box and we all know what happens when air gets hot...it rises! HELLO ! no escape for the hot air ? The Orcon Home Hub was very very warm to touch so to prove my finding's I plugged in my well designed Dynalink RTA 1335  4 port modem/router (with air vents underneath(entry) and air vents on the top(exit) of the box. I have not had one dis-connection since ! So Orcon will be receiving there Home Hub back in the next few days. I guess I should tell them of my findings ?

same with my old rta modem. it used to be played on carpet and it disconnected all the time. if you just elevate the box off the floor or turn it on its side it works perfectly. maybe you could try that with your ocron modem?

The reason it is dropping out as the modem is a "Single Pc Modem" and that is all it is intended for. USB is meant for where Ethernet cannot be used. When using both USB and Ethernet the modem will disconnect either 1 user or both.

TheUSB uses a lot of CPU on the router so it would often start to have lousy pings even on the ethernet port when I tried it.

I dont see the point in connecting to the router with an interface that gives about 1/3rd the ping time of the connection back to the ISP when there is a <1ms port available right beside it which will also go faster then the line speed, vs USB which is considerably slower.

This solution works perfectly for me while I save up for a wireless modem/router
