I've had the JC Matthew DVR-320T Freeview box for just over 10 months.  For the past 4 weeks or so, during both normal TV watching and during recorded playback, the video signal will randomly drop out (audio signla remains) and TV will show a blank screen.  I used to get the video back by switching the unit off and rebooting it, but recently discovered i could press the V.Format button on the remote 3 or 4 times and eventually the video signal woul dcome back.  However it then drops out again - sometimes 10 minutes later, sometimes an hour later.  This is now happening 4 or 5 times a night (during a TV wacthing session of 2 or 3 hours).  I've tried a different HDMI cable and same problem.

Has anyone else had similar problems and have a fix for it?

Classic hdmi handshaking problem by the sounds of it. A bit odd that audio keeps going.

How is the aerial signal, you haven't had any degradation of the actual TV signal input have you? Might pay to check that whilst you are at it, aerial connection quality.

Try a different hdmi input on the TV too to rule out any problems with handshaking on that one hdmi port. Could be loose connections in the hdmi socket internally. Agreed, all a bit odd if it's been working fine up until now.

10 months is totally within warranty periods if required. These things can be hard to chase up though if it's intermittent as invariably it works back at the shop.

hdmi problems have arisen with capacitors failing, these seem to be the most common components to fail with heat over time.

None of this helps you now I know sorry. First things first though is to rule out any easy stuff and start building some more info on the case.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
The audio isn't dropping out, only the video signal.
I'm pretty sure the aerial signal is fine as certainly haven't noticed any degradation through the Freeview box, and even plugged the aerial straight into the TV (which has a Freeview decoder) for the last few nights and is crystal clear.  Have also tried a different HDMI cable into the back of the Freeview box, which connects to a different HDMI connection into the back of the TV, and had the same result.
I think i'm just going to have to take it in for a warranty repair and just hope they can replicate the issue in the shop!
