Yeah it's a fair expectation to have surround sound support with high definition content. Hopefully freeview will be able to shed some light on the matter when freitasm has passed on the questions to them.

Just want to share with you guys. I have found that Cyberlink PowerDirector, along with the Powercinema 5.1 aac+, the ts can be converted to avi or other format easily without any a/v problems. Although Cyberlink PowerDirector still failed to recognise the proper name as HE.AAC, the converted audio played well.

What Powercinema did was to provide decoder for the HE-AAC audio. Anybody knows how to make use of the codec out of Cyberlink?

Unfortunately theres currently no publicaly available directshow splitter filter that will split our ts h.264 video and he-aac audio so that we can use an audio decoder that supports he-aac like powerdvd's audio decoder.

It is possible but only if you use the Cyberlink ts mux for splitting the ts file in the first place. The Cyberlink Audio decoder doesn't appear to be able to used in place of any other audio decoders unless it's being fed audio from the Cyberlink t mux or splitter.

Do you know the actual name of the Cyberlink ts mux file? e.g something.ax

Look what happens when i drag our freeview ts files onto graphedit now. The Cyberlink Demux (PDVD8) filter successfully splits the H.264 video and HE-AAC audio.

I can now play the ts files in windows media player. Can also load the ts files into virtual dub for converting to avi using avisynth's DirectShowSource. And ConvertXtoDVD for converting ts to dvd. I get audio out of sync by 200ms though which is fixable but annoying.

Try removing the arcsoft filter. Wouldn't surprise me if this is the cause and there is no need to have 2 audio decoders in series.

Yeah it's strange why directshow used both audio decoders? I'll play around with the merit values. Hopefully i can get just the cyberlink audio decoder loaded only.

I can confirm that if you disable Media Player Clasic - Homecinema's internal h264 decoder and ts demuxer, then prefer PDVD8 demux, audio decoder and h264 decoder, the audio works perfectly.
All 3 codecs show in graphedit, and theres no extra filters except MPC's audio switcher.

edit: I can also confirm that the h264 decoder and demuxer from pdvd8 will work fine with monogram as the audio decoder.

So out of interest what does that buy you?  To play the DVB-T broadcasts with AAC audio, I find PowerDVD8 works just fine.  And enough folks have reported that gbpvr works also if you have the monogram codec in the chain.

To process the AAC into something else, what's worked pretty well for me is to demux the AAC using tsremux, playing the AAC file in Winamp to get a wav file and re-encoding that wav into AC-3 using besweet. If I want to remove ads so it's a keeper, I tend to edit the .ts file first with tspacked editor or h264cutter

I am guessing if you can get all those filters to cooperate you should be able to open the .ts file in VirtualDub, edit out ads and render out to something more friendly?  Is that the problem trying to be solved?

There's no if's man, i already got our freeview ts files working in vitual dub using the Cyberlink Demux (PDVD8) filter and avisynth. Problem is i'm getting audio out of sync by 200ms which is easily fixable in virtual dub but annoying. Like sbiddle pointed out it could be because directshow is loading 2 audio decoders. I'll play around with the merit values and see if i can get just 1 audio decoder loaded. Will require a restart but so cant test right now. What i have tried though is loading specific filters using graphedit files and avisynths DirectShowSource and while it plays fine in media player classic the avs script wont load in virtual dub.

Good to hear that.  I actually tried what you outlined but I guess the PDVD8 splitter I have isn't the same one you're using since it provided no option to demux the input file. Is this a different version?

On the audio side, I encounter sync problems all the time and worst of all, they are random. With the method I use which I outlined earlier, I can audio in sync, or either fast or behind the video up to 1.5 seconds. It easily correctable but really annoying. I initially thought it might be a combination of Winamp creating the wav file and besweet re-encoding as AC-3 but doing the same process on different files (recorded from TV1 and TV2) I can get audio in sync from one file to up to 1.5s out on others.

When i first loaded ts files into graphedit nero splitter filter was used and it only supported our video so i changed Cyberlink Demux (PDVD8) filter merit value to merit_preferred +1 and nero splitter filter to merit_do_not_use. Now when i load ts files into graphedit Cyberlink Demux (PDVD8) filter is used. You could also load the ts file, disconnect all pins and rebuild the graph using the Cyberlink Demux (PDVD8) filter. Oh yeah i'm using the latest powerdvd 8 patch build 2021.50aU. That may have something to do with Cyberlink Demux (PDVD8) filter being more compatible?

I seriously do believe the Cyberlink codec has issues at times with H.264 content. On GB-PVR for example I've got examples of files that have issues with both PowerDVD8 playback and the Cyberlink H.264 codec when used from GB-PVR's own internal tsreader yet they are perfect with Arcsoft's H.264 codec.

I realise some people have had issues with Media Portal and the Arcsoft codec but IMHO it's a superior solution.

If i save a graphedit grf file that's using the Cyberlink Demux (PDVD8) filter and then reopen it, the cyberlink h.264 decoder wont connect back to the Cyberlink Demux (PDVD8) filter. However if i use arcsoft video decoder with Cyberlink Demux (PDVD8) filter the connection will stay intact when reloaded. So yeah the Cyberlink Demux (PDVD8) filter doesnt seem to be bug free. Hopefully it'll become more stable so 3rd party apps like GB-PVR can use it without errors. I find cyberlinks audio decoder to sound much better than monogram aac audio decoder.
