Yeah it's a fair expectation to have surround sound support with high definition content. Hopefully freeview will be able to shed some light on the matter when freitasm has passed on the questions to them.
medp7060: Just want to share with you guys. I have found that Cyberlink PowerDirector, along with the Powercinema 5.1 aac+, the ts can be converted to avi or other format easily without any a/v problems. Although Cyberlink PowerDirector still failed to recognise the proper name as HE.AAC, the converted audio played well.
What Powercinema did was to provide decoder for the HE-AAC audio. Anybody knows how to make use of the codec out of Cyberlink?

Look what happens when i drag our freeview ts files onto graphedit now. The Cyberlink Demux (PDVD8) filter successfully splits the H.264 video and HE-AAC audio.
I can now play the ts files in windows media player. Can also load the ts files into virtual dub for converting to avi using avisynth's DirectShowSource. And ConvertXtoDVD for converting ts to dvd. I get audio out of sync by 200ms though which is fixable but annoying.

There's no if's man, i already got our freeview ts files working in vitual dub using the Cyberlink Demux (PDVD8) filter and avisynth. Problem is i'm getting audio out of sync by 200ms which is easily fixable in virtual dub but annoying. Like sbiddle pointed out it could be because directshow is loading 2 audio decoders. I'll play around with the merit values and see if i can get just 1 audio decoder loaded. Will require a restart but so cant test right now. What i have tried though is loading specific filters using graphedit files and avisynths DirectShowSource and while it plays fine in media player classic the avs script wont load in virtual dub.

I seriously do believe the Cyberlink codec has issues at times with H.264 content. On GB-PVR for example I've got examples of files that have issues with both PowerDVD8 playback and the Cyberlink H.264 codec when used from GB-PVR's own internal tsreader yet they are perfect with Arcsoft's H.264 codec.
I realise some people have had issues with Media Portal and the Arcsoft codec but IMHO it's a superior solution.
