I've heard rumors that a new generation Galaxy Tab S is on the way. Might pay to hold fire for a few months. If its not fantastic, then you could pick up the Tab S on clearance.

I've got a Galaxy Tab S, and its a great piece of hardware, slim with excellent screen etc. The finger print reader on it is comparatively poor. I'm not sure how much better the next gen will be, as its already very slim. Personally I still prefer to use the iPad however, and I'm still waiting for the Lollipop update, thanks Samsung/Spark.

I have a SP 3. I use it as a tablet, laptop and (with docking station) a desktop.

It's a little heavy as a tablet to hold and read off, but otherwise performs all three functions well. I have no need to purchase a separate tablet.

Microsoft offer a number of productivity apps across Windows and Android platforms, and this enables a relatively seamless business integration with my Samsung phone.

Ditto with recreational apps like music, readers, movies etc.

And I can hook it up to HDMI to stream online TV. This isn't possible with my partners iPad for some services, you get a pop up referring to DRM.

My only gripe - EVERY FRACKING TIME I do an update it resets UAC which prevents some apps from running, requiring a settings change and restart.

I am seriously considering a Surface Pro at the moment but to me it is more of a laptop replacement than a tablet replacement.
If Google's Soli project bears fruit with its 3d gesture recognition then that may be a revolutionary moment for tablets.

Likewise the Motorola Atrix was a failed contender, great concept but too proprietary, hardware has come a long way in a relatively short time, the current gen technology is not necessarily providing vastly improved user experience compared to last gen but it is opening the door to other innovations

The next gen W10 flagship phones are basically going to be a hybrid phone/baby surface 3, to me that is technology working. How long will it be before we see a phone that is as capable as a Surface Pro3? Then we are talking!!

Won't the phone be too big as a phone, and too small for a tablet? Copncept is good, but svreen size is what helps us gravitate to a real laptop/hybrid, but the phone when on the run is handy.

I feel its more about integration so you can flip from one device to the other, Apple has that, now so does MS, to me that tech working.

Well I thought I was going to have to eat my words about the Note 8 replacement when I stumbled upon the Samsung Tab A range with S-pen. Usually Samsung can be relied on to bring out a multitude of different models so I am kind of disappointed they didn't see fit to bring out the S-pen model of the 8 inch Tab A and also the S-pen variant of their Tab S range as I see that as a point of difference that they could exploit against the iPad. The SAMOLED display on the S looks awesome, shame the displays on the A are so low res. I don't really want a 10 inch tablet just an update for my Note 8.

im talking a surface pro in a phone form factor, dock the phone into a desktop station

even better will be dumb tablets that act as a display and input device for a phone, with bluetooth wireless display usb etc surely creating universal devices should not br impossible

Well I bought the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 got a reasonable deal. I am not entirely convinced it's as amazing as reviews made it out to be, it certainly doesn't seem to handle gaming as well as my S6 (though yes I do understand it's a generation older. It's certainly lightweight and thin which is a real benefit.

I'll have to put a case of it, which is annoying. I am unsure what type of case to go with. Would like something classy but that will protect it (I have young kids).

I felt the same with my tab s 8.4. And its performance wad terrible. With an octacore and 3gb ram I wasnt expecting it to lag all over the place. Web browsing was especially bad. Sites took ages to render, then stuttered and lagged when trying to scroll, eg phonearena.com was especially ba, no such issues with my other android devices. I got rid of my tab s but have no idea what to replace it with. Maybe the z3 tablet compact? I once had the Galaxy mega 6.3 and that worked well for me as a tablet. So maybe another large phablet.

Tablet sales have been declining massively which is why we dont see a huge number of Manufacturers investing in this platform. Especially when ipad virtually has the monopoly in this segment.

For a better internet experience especially on Samsung divide and other brands don't use Google Chrome. Chrome was terrible on my Galaxy and Nexus tablets especially loading busy pages and scrolling was horrible, better to use Firefox or Dolphin.

What game did you find doesn't work so great?
Also I found web browsing to be quite snappy, depends what you're comparing it to I suppose.

Haven't used a case on mine and it's still looking pristine, but I don't let the kids near it.
