Do you have sid broadcasting on? not that you should need it, but it is helpful to see it in the connections list on your apad instead of not knowing if it is available at all.

also the backwards compatibility depends on the default settings for the adaptor. in your shoes i would look at those closely.

also - which window 7 edition are you using?

well, if you are doing everything exactly right, then examining the available adaptor modes is the next step.

Maybe the computer is making a 802.11n adhoc only which the apad cannot see - find a way to make it set up the adhoc connection use 802.11g or b on the computer. Maybe the wireless device you are using is 802.11n only? Or maybe the a pad doesn't like adhoc networks.

You could try setting up your wireless is non adhoc (http://erratasec.blogspot.com/2009/11/windows-7-includes-soft-ap.html) and see if its any better?

Or get a standalone Wireless AP

This sounds like fun.

Do you know if the Apad supports 'Ad-Hoc' mode connections?

I'm thinking maybe only infrastructure connection mode is supported.

Just a thought.

One could always set up the Windows 7 PC as an infrastructure mode hotspot using something like Connectify or if you're lucky your USB/PCI-E WiFi dongle/card came with infrastructure mode hotspot configuration.

I have a CNet 802.11n 150Mbps USB thumb drive with WiFi infrastructure mode hotspot support and it works fine with an Android device. As per any infrastructure mode configuration, it'll take up a chuck of your system resources on Win7

Edit - LennonNZ has just hinted towards the same thing, Found a good white paper on CSMA/CA and got a bit side tracked, thus the length of time to return to this post.

Yes Android doesn't support ad-hoc connections without patches. There are wpa_supplicant patches around but it is very hit and miss as to whether they will work on a particular device. It's easier to set up Windows as an access point using Connectify.

looking through device manager it only shows 802.11n with respect to the wireless adapter, but if you go to www.hp.com.au (as it is not a valid model on the NZ site even though i brought it from Hrvey Norman in NZ) and put int the model P6735A it shows it as being a 802.11b/g/n adapter. but it also shows the RAM as 1 x 4GB and i am sure when it was advertised here it was a 2 x 2GB for RAM. so who knows. i was creating an ad-hoc network, which may not work, i tired the other option there when creating a wireless network but maybe that is for me to connect to a wireless network. what is with bridging, i have a several connections available but it appears if i bridge the LAN and the WLAN connections my internet does not work.
