First thing I ever do is root my phones and uninstall the rubbish. Second thing is install juicedefender - well worth buying the ultimate version imho. I also install an APN widget for turning data on/off - normally speaking I leave it on though. With moderate use on my ideos 8150 I can easily get a days use (I charge every night anyways), thats with juicedefender set to turn net access on hourly for emails etc. Ive installed a few plugins in the past that just destroy battery life though - can be hard to track down whats doing what..

So I took the phone in this afternoon. Also told her about the loose battery covers, which dont sit on the phone properly. So she sent it away, and I told her I'm not paying that fee, to which she asked for my home phone number and did it through that. I told her I want a replacement but she said she can't do it on the spot.

Also in another little event thingy. Our netbooks battery is no longer charging so we took that into DSE and they took that in without asking for payment either which was good. But they dont do loan computers so I dont know what the rest of the family is going to do without a computer this week. Lol. Unless its wroth trying to claim back the cost of renting a machine until then.

Another thing to look at is turning off auto background updates in all installed apps (whether they came with the phone or not) so the phone isn't constantly doing stuff you're not necessarily aware of.

michaelmurfy: Sounds like a ELF / OBF to me - There is a 7 day swap-out period in case if this happens.

To qualify for this,
1) Make sure that the box is complete, return it how you bought it.
2) Attempt to do a factory reset, on the Flipout this normally takes about 1hr (I know, it's long) but /could/ fix the issue.
3) If all else fails, take it back to the store you bought it from, say it's a "Out of box failure" due to it's battery not lasting more than 6hrs (sounds right?) - Know what you are about to say, treat them nice, they /should/ replace it in store with a brand new one.

If you can't get 3 to happen, ask to speak to the manager. If the phone is under 7 days old and has no physical signs of liquid / impact damage they have to just replace it.

I know for a fact the Flipout has a poor battery life, if you want something with a reasonable battery life (aka, lasting slightly longer than a day, sometimes 2) and also a nice phone to use in general even ask if it is possible to pay the difference and go for the LG P500. Otherwise I would say the new Flipout you should get will last about 12hrs or so on a single charge.

This is correct, but in order for a OBF/ELF to be accepted on the spot the fault also must be verified in-store. As mentioned must also have no signs of physical or liquid damage and be complete with box and all accessories.

Battery issues make this more difficult and often will be sent away to be bench tested, Mainy because the phone needs to be used in a real life day to day situation to verify the fault which isn't always possible or reasonable. If sent away as a OBF/ELF and the fault is verified, the phone will be replaced with a new boxed unit still.

Just rung the repair company. Sat on the phone for over 20minutes being told my call is important blah blah. Then someone came on the line and I spoke with them, they told me my phone arrived the day after I booked it in, and its just been sitting there basically and they're not going to look at it till next week. Gave no excuse as to why. Just that they weren't going to look at it until then.

The lady in the store was no help either when I rung and no one seems really interested in helping.

I'm really really angry that its been in the repair shop longer than I've owned it, and I feel like I'm giving someone a $300 interest free loan or something. Especially for a 3 day old phone. How long does it take to look at something to see if its water damaged?

You have to wait your turn for service. You can't expect people to drop everything when you need them.

I feel your frustration though.

Isnt that the reason for the water indicator tabs that turn pink? So they can quickly ID if its wet or not

Sure, but they probably have to open it up first. Service works on a queue system, first in first served, not shortest job first.

Just a quick question, was I legally allowed to sign that contract saying that if I broke the loan phone then I'd have to pay $400 since I'm not 18 yet? That thought just struck me now too.

As above, works on a queue system, Keep in mind they are not just checking moisture indicators they will be bench testing the phone and battery to replicate/verify the fault.

Moisture indicators are just that, they only indicate if there has been moisture at that exact area, moisture can enter the phone in many different ways without setting off the indicator. They will pull the phone apart and check the main PCB board etc for moisture damage aswel.

If you PM me your Work Order number I can give you real time updates if you wish instead of calling store/telegistics.

When you signed you were accepting liability of a $55 service charge if the phone is deemed out of warranty due to liquid/physical damage/misuse.

Its not a legally binding document as such, so been under 18 is not a issue.

No I signed a contract saying if the loan phone comes back and its broken or lost or whatever then I have to pay $400 to replace it. I refused to pay the $55 service charge.

The $55 Service charge isnt required to be paid before sending a phone away unless it is out of warranty. (or appears to have damage)

$400 for the loan phone sounds higher than normal, what model loan phone were you given?

You could be liable to pay repair costs if the phone was damaged (which im sure you will look after), not $400. Unless the value of the phone is $400 and it was lost or stolen.

Happy to follow this up for you if you PM me your Work Order number, and provide some clarity if you are not getting the answers you want from the store.
