Im after recommendations for backup options for 365 based email. 365 Business , multiple email a/c's (approx 10 - 20 )

I want a real restore from backup capability, not just 365's (limited) deleted file recovery options
I need to be able to use backups to restore missing (cough cough moved accidentally) mail & inbox subfolers

Im considering Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365
Perhaps the free 10 user version , then upgarde to the Full (paid for) version after a bit of testing

For those type of clients, I usually recommend a Synology DS218+ NAS.

The Active Backup for Office 365 is pretty good and free: https://www.synology.com/en-nz/dsm/feature/active_backup_office365

Buy some extra memory into it, and it can run VMs, docker containers, file shares, etc as well.

I was planning on backup up to their server , rather than added expense of a NAS .

The place where I work has been using Spanning for O365. I've had a few instances where this was used for both restore and disciplinary actions (user deleted emails).

you can restore the email/folder to the end-users mailbox or download it

Im running a test with Veeam for 365

Backing up just 2 mail a/c's, one very small, one large
No problems with the small a/c

backup up the large(size) email a/c:
MS's 365 throttling policy makes this unreliable (timeouts) and ridiculously slow.

Any ideas how to work around the 365 throttling ? I'd only be able to schedule one users a/c backup per night , and then theres the big
risk of timeouts and the backup simply failing

Thanks, I'll try the demo version.
Veeam (by default)wont automatically reconnect after a connection timeout , so I need another option .

However the issue isnt (just) with the software , its with 365 bandwidth throttling .
365 can and does throttle downloads (ie backups of email ). That causes timeouts & makes the process extremely slow.

we have moved from skykick to avepoint for one of out client that has 0365 / SharePoint to backup - after 2 weeks, skykick was still going on the first SharePoint backup, and with ticket logged, they said it be fine after the first backup, but could not give time on when it would finished - tried avepoint trail and it was done in a day, so told skykick we not paying as it still not backup after 2 weeks, and avepoint has, and paid for avepoint.

Disclosure, I work for Veeam NZ.

Veeam Backup for Office 365 v4 was released just before Xmas and it addressed some of the throttling from Microsoft by setting up Auxiliary Backup accounts, see here: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo365/guide/manage_backup_accounts.html?ver=40

I've seen throttling across a couple of larger sites who had huge SharePoint volumes. The throttling went away once the initial backup job was complete.

SaaS solutions are a simple, fast option but ensure you have an ability to get a copy of your data back should you wish to cancel the subscription. Some SaaS vendors create lock-in. We have Service Providers across NZ which can deliver you a SaaS type experience, PM me if you want an intro.
