I need to replace the Control Module in a 5Kg Fisher & Paykel Smart Drive Washing Machine Model MW051-F. I've always managed to get spare parts such as the valves from a man in Hastings who who repairs and sells second-hand washing machines. But he has told me that he can't get spare parts any more for these machines. This is otherwise a great machine but it doesn't do a long wash anymore -only a short wash. Hoping someone on here can suggest somewhere I can get a working Control Module.

how old is the machine? i would expect F&P to still have spare parts for it if its less than 8-10 years old as that's a reasonable length of time to expect one to operate for during normal use.

if you were told when buying that spare parts aren't available that's also fine "Manufacturers or importers can legally opt out of this guarantee by giving you notice that spare parts and repairs will not be available or will be limited."

These Smart Drives are older than 10 years but quite possibly better quality than some of the newer models. That's why some of us keep an older model and replace parts where necessary.

Thanks RunningMan but F&P certainly don't stock spare parts for machines as old as this. One has to find parts by asking on the grapevine. Usually there's someone who is buying these old machines and repairing them for re-sale or sometimes someone will have a broken one in the shed and will be happy to remove the part and sell it to someone who needs it.

I would seriously consider checking with F&P before assuming they don't have parts. You're not wrong about the NZ made stuff being better quality than the imported F&P.

Do a search on trade me for someone who sells refurbished whiteware by clicking on 'sellers other listings' and ask if they have your part. There are a couple of sellers that refurbish in Wellington that have a couple garages of old machines and parts.

Yes, I've used Steve's Appliances before. But that part at $215 is nearly the price of the $300 I paid for the machine. I'm hoping to find a working part pulled out of a old machine. Just not worth putting in a new part when something else might fail as well. I've already replaced the valves though.

A good second hand module might be hard to find - being that old they tend to fail eventually - either by component breakdown or corrosion. So if you find one don't spend too much on it as there's a good chance won't last very long.

Yes, totally agree. But they are reasonably easy to fit so I'm still hoping to find a secondhand one at a modest price. It's my own machine -I don't do them up to sell. Nobody in my town to do this sort of repair and my man in Hastings has stopped collecting them to repair and sell as they are too hard to find now, he said.

I get my smart drive spares either off trademe or the side of the road. Only yesterday someone put one of these on the side of the road 3 doors down from me (gone now).

The last one of these I grabbed, it leaked water from the agitator, but the pump, position sensor and electronics were still 100%.

Yes, I used to do this when I lived in Auckland but I never see anything on the side of the road down here in Central Hawke's Bay.
