So hopefully Fanpass will become Sky Sport 1-4, Popup Channels, ESPN and perhaps beIN Sports?

OSN in the middle east (where Stewart came from) has a service called Wavo. USD$10 a month for 6 sports channels, a few entertainment channels a movie channel etc. It's pretty decent value but still has all the normal limitations (2 screens, very limited device support etc).

I think it'll get better than it is now but it probably won't be exactly what you describe.

I really, really hope Sky do something to FanPass.

Make it a fair price for a casual subscription - I'd be happy to pay $40-$60 maybe for a month without a contract (based on what Sky currently has the rights for - if they lost Rugby, League or Cricket, my value perception would change). Popups would be good, as would OnDemand (so if I miss the start of a live event, I can start the stream from the start and catch up.

Here's hoping.

I feel genuinely encouraged by what this guy is saying. He isn't talking about changes a year from now, but rather a month from now. The changes he is suggesting seem indicative of the changes people have been talking about. He understands that dragging people to the TV isn't the answer, but rather making the content available to people whereever they are is. That's fantastic. I don't see some things like ad's changing. I believe those are tied to the commercial realities of running a business. Cutting ads would increase the subscription costs, however, I do feel he has a real feel for how he can improve the value of Sky for the average consumer. I suspect the impact of this will not be felt in this coming year financially, in fact I believe this years financials will make for grim reading, however, I believe the new solutions may see a staunching of the flow of subscribers leaving and may see increases to casual user numbers.

I think he understands that Sky isn't Netflix and he isn't trying to make them the same, but rather grab some of the best of both platforms to make it more attractive to those who might consider a change.

I don't think any of these changes will affect those who are moving to Netflix because they want a $20pm subscription where the content they want is available within that subscription (IE if you are happy with Netflix content then Netflix is a perfectly valid option), but he may prevent users who want more than what netflix offers but want the netflix flexibility in terms of how and where they view.

It's a shame that the two choices for consumers is either one content provider charging a "premium" or 15 smaller providers all charging less but with a smaller subset of content that depending on how much content you watch, could end up costing you even more!

I get ads that are trying to get me to buy a non sky product.

But just get annoyed by programs interrupted or distracting ads for sky products...

I have no interest in sky perks...

Stop superimposing ads on the bottom of the screen...

I'm the opposite. I don't want Harvey Norman ads blaring at me, but I am happy to hear about upcoming episodes of something I might be interested in.

If you think the ads in Sky NZ are bad, holy moly try Sky UK.

Looks like he’s got a lot more clue then John Fellet.

They can drop revenue if they drop costs, I.e less box’s in homes for internet customers so I’m not sure fully on board with that.

Adds works out to $6 a customer a month from another thread, how many lost customers are from adds.
Between programs fine.

At least he’s looks like being more active, so hopefully he turns things around.

This has probably already been said here, but I really like the look of the new CEO. A bit of honesty goes a long way, and it will be really interesting to see what they come up with as a 'plan' moving forward. He absolutely ripped into fan pass too, that was really funny.

His comments re Spark Sport were very interesting too. Basically praising them for what they have achieved so far, and saying something along the lines of 'if it were me, I would spend whatever it took to make it work', referring to Spark here obviously, but also saying how interesting it will be to look at their books at the end of the next financial year and see how things are really looking on the Sport side of things.
