No they don't. I have already investigated that too...

Does the MySkyHDi decoder box also tune into channels outside the sky network buddle that are beamed from the same Optus D1 satellite i.e. the 'real' FTA freeview SD and there are a few aussie and international channels too.

As I explained above, Sky have locked them out so you can't access them. Which as I also mentioned, is part of the reason we don't actually use our MySky decoder any more ;)

One of the later posts mention 23.83/month for basic package and skywatch for 12 months plus $7.50 for myskyhd box for 12 months. I beleive you don't have to pay any extra for the hd versions of tv1-3 with the myskyhd box.
12 month term I beleive.

For people who are in a 12month contract but no longer want to pay for full sky.

A good PVR with EPG that you don't have to buy outright maybe?

Just to clarify:

- Dolsen is correct: The Sky Basic package does include HD versions of TV1/2/3;

- It's the previously mentioned "Free to Air only" package that doesn't.

With the deals that Sky are offering at the moment, and the availability of decent FreeView DVB-S PVRs, I don't see any reason to sign up for the "Free to Air only" package any longer.

If you want HD over satellite though (DVB-S2), this is when the equation changes, and you are probably best to go for MySky HDi with a half-price / 12-month deal.

I recently had HDi installed. Fairly disappointed with the quality of One, 2 and 3. I knew there would be some compression but the extent of it is pretty ridiculous.

I'll probably stick to Freeview for those channels anyway :P

Oh that doesn't sound so good Crowbar. Are you comparing with terrestial Freeview|HD?

I would have thought that a channel/program in HD would have to conform to some sort of universal standard, but perhaps not based on your observations...

Got myskyHDi installed, the HD programs are def. a better quality on the sky HD TV1-3. vs SD programs.

Tho i do notice with flat screen TVs (LCD), HD only starts to come into its own wif screen size of 40 inch or more.

My understanding is that DVB-T H.264 and Sky's DVB-S2 H.264 1080i streams of TV1/2/3 are identical.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Sadly this is not the case. I've received confirmation of sorts from sky that they are not the same. The compression on sky's is not insignificant. Its noticeable even at a distance.

I just got some Freeview |HD reception back from welli (KauKau). So i was keen to try a comparison (on a HD filmed program) between Freeview |HD on my TV and sky on my HDMI1. Initially there was a colour and volume difference between the two inputs, but I realised the video Picture settings were different between digital TV and HDMI1, so i set them to exactly the same settings (brightness, contrast, colour temp. etc.) and then flicked between Freeview |HD TV1 and Sky TV1 HD . Dammed if i could see a difference! Using a Sony 40inch TV.

Maybe this is just a feature of your particular sky box (which also includes, strangely enough, the feature where it stretches letterboxed 4:3 content on 16:9 channels (a feature that is not found on any other sky box))?

It would be harder to tell the difference the smaller the screen size. It's quite noticeable on a 50".

Country Calendar is a great show to check it with.

Its not really a secret that Sky and TelstraClear both use various levels of compression on different channels, for example the Test match on Saturday was crystal clear. Its not that Sky can't provide the same-level quality, they just need to spread their available bandwidth around. Like I said, I received confirmation via email and I'm happy with that, its business!

If anything its a huge thumbs up for Freeview|HD.
