Crowbar: [Its not really a secret that Sky and TelstraClear both use various levels of compression on different channels, for example the Test match on Saturday was crystal clear. Its not that Sky can't provide the same-level quality, they just need to spread their available bandwidth around. Like I said, I received confirmation via email and I'm happy with that, its business!
This is incorrect. In the old days TCL did reencode Sky content, but have not done for ~4 years now. All content sourced from Sky has the transport stream passed thru with no changes other than a different encryption added.
For channels not sourced from Sky the quality may vary, with TCL typically offering a higher quality picture as they don't have the same bitrate constraints as Sky.
