Hey Mikey,

I think that may be because of the bluetooth 'profiles' (ie. Headset, handsfree, Object Push, FTP etc etc).... I cant really remember (and the phone is in NZ with the missus while I'm in Australia with the cockroaches :) which ones the 6600 actually supports...

anyone else care to comment?

Mikey,

you need a good filemanager, which you can use to send ANY files on the 6600 to another device. I use FileMan:

Another really good app is forward, it lets you forward on anything you receive in your inbox; pxt, ring tones, bluetooth-transferred files etc:

Cheers, W.

hi all

my my how a few of us in new zealand have the nokia 6600. as soon as i saw it i had to buy it. which was over in england,so making things all right i brought the phone sim free so it could accept any sim card, which it has done very well, but who the hell thinks of the wap settings and things like that while abroad. i didnt realise that it was running on a wap 2.0 till i got it back here. now i have talked to the vodafone customer services in december and they said that the wap 2.0 and the nokia 6600 will be ready in feb 2004. so i have emailed the customer service team again yesterday and they have got back to me saying it may not be till mid march and still that could change without any notification, what the hell are they doing, cant they get thir s sorted out. so im using my 7650 currently as a f around pxt phone but the 4Mb memory is just too useless. here is what the vodafone customer service representative replied back to me...

Dear Will

Thank you for your email.

At the time of writing Vodafone plans to upgrade our WAP gateway to WAP 2.0 in mid-March but this may change without any notice. The Nokia 6600 has not yet been submitted to Vodafone for network testing by Nokia so I am not able to guarantee that this handset will be sold in Vodafone stores and thus supported by Vodafone at this stage.

If you have any further questions please reply to this email or call our 24 hour Customer Contact Centre on 777 from your Vodafone mobile or 0800 800 021 from any other phone. From overseas you can contact us on 64 9 357 5198.>>>>>>>

please if any of u find out any information before i do, any settings in new zealand for mms and pxt and live anything like that on the nokia 6600 please could u take the time and drop me a qucik email on mazda_rxwillz@hotmail.com any information will be much appreciated.ok guys thanks very much keep ur eyes open hope 1 of us find it to share with all of us cos vodafone are just leaving us hanging here. big day out and four and rotary nats were fkg great.
by the way what do u reckon the retail on a 6600 will be in new zealand?

also mazdawill why are you not happy with VFNZ, cause they do not support WAP 2.0 yet???, VFNZ do not support EDGE so are you going to get upset over that, they don't support handsets made by BIRD are you going to get upset over that. I think you need to grow up and act your age not your shoe size, Just cause nokia make a handset it does not mean that VF NZ have to sell it or support it, there are so many makes of GSM handsets why do they have to support all of them, just cause people import and purchase phones that have features that are not supported on the network yet don't blame them!!. There are lots of things that people would like but im sure they are doing there best. Just let them get on with there job dude cause I am %100 sure you could not go in and have the know how on how to get things going. Im sure you would hate it if people started telling you what to do to your car and what colour it should be and what type of wheels, rims should be on it. also another point it says in the Email from vodafone that this date could change at any point, that means also the date could come forward, Did you stop and think about that, Will think outside the square you live in cause you have being living in one tooo long and welcome to the real world

Dude, relax. The post you are commenting on was well written and contained some good information; whereas your post was just flame bait. If you have nothing to say but bagging someones post I suggest you dont post at all.

... and yes I expect a nonsensical reponse to this post.

Ease up.

akawsh is right.... Folks, relax. This is just where people put their views and rants - with some good points we might even change some corporation directions. Look for example the thread on T630 - SE was going to release only the Black version, now they have plans to release the White version as well. I want to believe this was because of market influence.

Everyone has the time to ask for things. If VFNZ does not support WAP 2.0, users can rant about. One day it'll support because otherwise they'll lag behind when new handsets come out. Sooner or later this will be solved.

So, please eveyone calm down, let's keep the focus on features, how to use it, fresh information on when VFNZ will release an updated WAP gateway, etc... Don't make this personal.

I don't know if this is of any help to anyone but when i got my 6600 from Mobile Phone Traders in Auckland they supplied this "Nokia 6600 GPRS Settings" instructions.

1. push MENU and select TOOLS

2. push SETTINGS and select CONNECTION

3. select ACCESS POINT NAME

4. push OPTIONS and select NEW ACCESS POINT

5. select USE DEFAULT SETTINGS

6. select CONNECTION NAME and enter GPRS INTERNET

7. select DATA BEARER and set to GPRS

8. select ACCESS POINT NAME and enter www.vodafone.net.nz (note: you must leave user name and password an BLANK. So make sure not to enter anything by mistake because it wont work and it's a real pain to get rid of it once it has been saved.

9. select PROMPT PASSWORD and set to NO.

10. select AUTHENTICATION and set SECURE (note: this may not always show as an option, so if it doesn't just ignore it because it means that it's already been set).

11. leave gateway I.P addresses set to 0.0.0.0 (as mentioned above this may also not show in the settings sometimes, so if it doesn't please ignore it OK)

12. select back to finish the setup.

13. AND NOW MY FRIENDS YOU CAN SURF ANYTHING YOU LIKE "JUST NOT THE VODAFONE LIVE WEBSITE". BUT OTHER THAN THAT I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS SO FAR SO PLEASE ENJOY.

I have put these settings in my phone and i got the Opera Web Viewer to run good. I haven't got the services/wap running yet tho.

SIK M8!!!

Yes, those instructions will enable you to browse around using GPRS.... but the real problem is still WAP... As I understand it, unfortunately both MMS and WAP actually go through the WAP gateway... so until Vodafone upgrade to WAP2.0, there will be no MMS (ie. no PXT) and no WAP with the nokia6600....

bit of a shame, and somewhat annoying, but to be fair... it was a parallel imported phone, so i cant really blame vodafone... just something to chalk up to experience, and next time i parallel import a phone i'll double (if not TRIPLE) check that it works with the network :)

It is really a shame that they can't use common standars around the world and have them installed at the same time...

When I went to Japan about 18 months ago, EVERYONE (businessmen, adults and children) had a colour camera phone equivelent to about the GX10i or GX20 that we have here. And they only costed about $400.

It seems to me that we are stuck on the losing end of a cycle. Vodafone won't upgrade their hardware and get the newer phones until there is demand, but demand will only come when they release the newer phones. For the average user to bother getting a high end phone, it must have features that they are going to use. The latest camera phones here in NZ are still a novelty because of their quality and price etc...

It's your classic:

Higher price = More money per unit but less units sold.
Lower price = Less money per unit but more units sold.

Clearly Japan has the lower prices and sell many more units but they don't compromise on quality.

It all comes down to what Vodafone are willing to spend upgrading their network. Money is the only obstacle stopping them from introducing UMTS (3g), nevermind Wap 2.0, and once that is done we benefit from better phones.

Peter you say vodafone is not upgrading the hardware, Why have there been big media releases from vodafone saying they are starting to build a 3G network and why have I posted on here so many times that WAP 2.0 will here very very very soon, your statement is very unfair in your post !!. If they never upgraded anything there would be no WAP at all, no GPRS, or no 3G network coming there would be very few sites around for coverage. come and sit at my desk at work and see whats going on you would be surprised
