I have(did) always pre drill pine decking timber on advice of my chippy brother in law, it helps prevent splitting but with heating and cooling of the deck some splitting is inevitable.

I agree. The thread starter has unrealistic expectations of soft wood products . As others have mentioned, decking timber is not forcibly dried after treatment and should be stacked to allow for air drying for at least a few weeks after purchase.

If it helps, that doesn't look terrible to me or anything. Just looks like normal decking.

Should be fine if you stain it a few coats and repeat every couple years. We used that pine grooved stuff on ours over ten years ago, groove side up, got some checking like that, haven't been staining or cleaning it as often as we should but it's still fine except the bits that got steadily dripped on from leaky guttering (still waiting on the tradie who is supposed to fix it this summer)

I think part of the problem is that you should have got 40 mm thick timber. But in a year or so after it has greyed, you really won't notice it, as long as it is secured well and has enough structure underneath it.
