I'm changing to 14W dedicated LED fittings with NZ approvals and dimmable driver. Ten are installed as of a couple of weeks ago, really impressed and the place is well lit. Photos will come when I have a chance. Cost is $55 each. Too many expenses this month, probably do it next month. Stock in Wellington is ~3300k of which I have one older 10W model, but the guy takes special orders so I go 4000k which is perfect for us. Delivery is about 3-4 weeks. Brand is Quality LED Lighting, just Google it. Even comes with full DoC. He has larger ones, but I've decided it is too much trouble enlarging the holes in my ceiling. If it was not for these lights, I would have made my own as I can for about the same price. When our builder saw it he ordered some for himself too.

Are the dimmable drivers constant current or pwm. And are the mains terminals large enough to take 3 1.5mm wires or will I have to resort to external junction boxes?

Sorry, above I said the new model is 12W. It is actually 14W. Output is stated as 990lm. The larger 23W model is 1633lm and the smaller 9w model is 640lm. Hole sizes for the 3 power ratings are approx 75mm, 120mm and 160mm. Warranty is 3 years. Also see now the colour he stocks is 3000k, not 3300k. CRI-80Ra.

Terminals are large. Dimming is constant current, requires a trailing edge dimmer like PDL 624T or 624TM. I did not buy it for dimming, but might have to in the main bedroom (for TV) and lounge (also for TV). We have 2 fittings towards one end of a large rectangle double bedroom (because the other end has a fan), and the whole room is well lit up. The electrician that imports/rebrands it could not find any good fittings in NZ so he went to China to find a manufacturer to make what he wants and what he is happy with. The early 12W model had a driver with tiny terminals barely enough for a single wire, but the new 14W one takes at least 2 wires twisted together. Maybe 3, but not sure. The terminal cover has a ratchet effect which works with any thickness wire, but I don't think the restraint will be good with 3 wires. I would recommend 2.

The driver look identical to Deal Extreme SKU 284628 but with blue covers. The holes are for the terminal screws, not to hold the covers down. I did open one and the circuit board is well assembled and conformal coated, but would be easy to replace the capacitor if ever needed to. That said, it does run cool as the driver dissipates only about 1-2W.

These are the same ones I posted about last year - I have had them in my house for nearly 12 months now and they are brilliant. I've had one driver fail (within a few weeks of install) and it was replaced without issue.

Bought one. Sitting on the windowsill because I have better things to do at the moment. Construction looks like a cheap dx one but it has approval numbers so is ok from that perspective. Might open it for some pics tonight / tomorrow.

Here are some pictures of it opened up to look at. Construction seems as cheap as it could be without falling apart, mains terminals look ok for a single piece of 1.5mm - its the clamp that wouldnt take more than one piece.

Power supply sitting on top of LED "heatsink", not a good idea for capacitor life.

So what's the current state of play? I was going to replace my few remaining E27 (Screw) bulbs with LED's. I want pretty bright, cold white, is there a current recommendation?

I've changed to dedicated fittings from Quality LED Lighting in Wellington, been running great for longer than the pay-back period. And love the colour temperature I could specify myself. And the light spread with no shadows.

For the bathroom I'm using Click GU10 bulbs from Bunnings, very happy and wide spread. For security light I'm very happy with Click also. At work I have a 14W Philips E27 from Bunnings, works really well. But don;t be fooled into buying the higher priced lower power bulb, check the Lumens on the package.

The click par38's I put in have all failed except one of a pair that is under cover. The glue holding the front on fails and the front glass drops off them too.

I have 2 in a motion sensing fitting mounted under the eves on the corner of the house North side, so covered but still exposed to wind/sun. Been going fine for about 6 months, and just checked and found no assembly issues. I would not call them quality, but I do like the neutral white and the spread (of both par38 spots and GU10 wide angle).
