I haven't gone that far, but have been meaning to try something like that.

My setup is pretty simple currently:

Fritzbox VDSL Modem\Router -> TP-Link Router with Gargoyle -> HTPC\etc

Most devices connect to the Fritzbox but the TP-Link just sits in the lounge in our entertainment unit with the HTPC and a couple of other things connected to it. Most other devices are connected the Fritzbox (directory or via a second gigE switch)

Gargoyle is set to use unblockus DNS while the Fritzbox uses snap! DNS.

It does mean the HTPC is double NAT'd but I haven't noticed any real issues with this. Still I've been meaning to have a play with dnsmasq. Found this a little while back, which could be interesting (but do it in reverse - only send necessary sites to unblockus, for everything else use ISP dns)

I had been thinking of using DNSMasq. I have a D-Link with DD-WRT but at the moment I am not using its routing capbilities but using the Telecom provided VDSL modem.

I had been using the Telecom modem in bridge mode with a TPLink router flashed with Gargoyle but that died so I had to go back to using the Telecom modem. (As an aside if a modem is flased with Gargoyle can I take it back for a warranty repair?)

sidefx: unblockus works by (I believe - they're not too forthcoming with how they actually do it and this is not really my area) directing you to reverse proxies for certain websites (netflix, bbc iplayer, hulu, etc, etc) so when you submit DNS requests that say "take me to Netflix" the unblockus DNS server actually directs you to unblockus reverse proxies which fiddle with the traffic so that it looks like you're in the US to the netflix servers.

TLDR: it's not the location of the DNS servers that matter. ;-)
