Son had the same issue - phimosis. When he had it done it left no noticeable scar as it's concealed by natural skin creases, plus a (plastic) surgeon did it who considers the procedure a specialty so expected the best result. Son was a bit sore for a couple of days but nothing major.

Was this in Auckland? Do you remember the name of the surgeon?

Yep, in Auckland, surgeon is Murray Beagley, I think I posted his details earler in this thread.

Oops sorry, missed the first post. Were you able to a get a referral or any kind of health coverage when seeing a specialist like Beagley?

Hi, it was covered by health insurance. IIRC the insurance companies require a GP referral so we would have had one. Aside from that I expect you can just phone the surgery and book a consult. I'll be catching up with him this evening - he's my brother in law.

I don't think anything has qualified for that award since Buck Shelford lifted the standard in 1986.

"Roughly 20 minutes into the match, he was caught at the bottom of a rather aggressive ruck, and an errant French boot found its way into Shelford's groin, somehow ripping his scrotum and leaving one testicle hanging free. He also lost four teeth in the process. Incredibly, after discovering the injury to his scrotum, he calmly asked the physio to stitch up the tear and returned to the field before a blow to his head left him concussed. "

Can't comment personally (being female) but watched an episode with Dr  whatshisname in the Uk (off embarassing bodies) a different program. Didn't see the problem, but Dr said it's a nasty surgery and won't be pretty and scarring etc...and thought whatever he had wasn't that bad (nor did the guys GF) and suggested he do some counselling thing instead. As the guy was rather paranoid about it's looks.

Have to agree, they look different, it's how you use it that counts.

The surgery is often required in teenagers and adults not for appearance but due to phimosis which can lead to serious complications.

A mate of mine had it done around 20 and was quite vocal/proud of the process.

He seemed to not enjoy the first few days but after that it was just down to healing
He gave it around 2 weeks and was back in action again... He did mention he should have given it maybe three weeks.
No further issues, he didn't say it made any sensation different or how ever but easier to use in general.

No I never saw the before/after. (I have no interest in that)
I won't be asking who did the operation.

Cheers!

Took me months for the sensitivity to fade away, Being covered for 20 odd years and then being left out in the open makes you walk a little differently for a month or two.

@Mspec

I can vividly imagine.

Would you recommend someone get circumcised?

Having a bit of a discussion with someone that for cultural and traditional reason think that if he gets a male kid it should get circumcised.

I don't have a problem with it if its a medical necessity, but don't think its right for grown people to mutilate their kids.

Any grown up individual should have the right to do it if they want, but other than that I think it should be outlawed.

No I would not recommend you get circumcised unless you need it medically. Mine was because I had Phimosis and because let's just say I was very well endowed.

It should not be done on any child in my opinion unless medically needed.

I find it odd that no one has mentioned circumcision to prevent fungal infections. That's my birthright.

I love my dear old Mum (now deceased) but I will never forgive her for not getting me 'trimmed' back when.

Unless, now that I think about it, it was also my father's decision.

He's also deceased but I'm not gonna forgive him, either :-(

Is it common to have it done to babies near the time of birth these days? My brother is, but none of his boys are, and I would have thought that he would have wanted it doing so they matched especially when they ask questions down the track.
