Dratsab: Gillete Mach 3, shower, soap. Only adds a short amount of time to the shower.

I've found I can get through a week on one blade set quite comfortably and can stretch it out to two weeks, but things are getting a bit rough by then. Might have a crack at redjet's suggestion.

And that's is exactly what I was doing when I was using the Mach 3... then I found that Gillette had been screwing me. I bought a Schick Quattro because it was very cheap (on special) and I was being a tight arse not wanting to pay full price for Mach 3 blades. I get weeks (up to a month) out of each blade set! So the Quattro intro pack (which only had 2 sets of blades in it) lasted me nearly 2 months!!! Ever since I have felt extremely ripped off by Gillette and have been kicking myself for not trying Schick sooner.

It did take a couple of days (and it was only a couple of days) for my face to get use to the different razor, plus I think it gives me a better shave than the Mach 3 ever did.

Interesting! I'll keep an eye out for a Quattro special :-)

I should say that this is my experience and may by no mean be what other people experience, but I really do find the Quattro blades lasting a heck of a lot longer than the Mach 3 ever did. I'm pretty sure I have occasionally gone a lot longer than a month between blade changes also... but she was getting pretty blunt by then! Laughing

Regs: i've been using the king of shaves azor razor lately. its a bit different to the gillette mach 3 that i normally use, but seems to work well once you get used to it, and the blades are cheaper and lasting well.

as for oil/gel... i've tried them all. the best i have found is the nivia sensitive shave gel: http://www.nivea.co.uk/products/mens-care/sensitive/Sensitive-Shaving-Gel

shower shaving is also best, imo, but more expensive with the hot water usage :)

+1 have been doing this for over a couple of years now, great razor. Alot different from others out there, but cheaper and does a great job once you've got use to it.

Review of King of Shaves Razor

I just wanted to report in here as I bought a King of Shaves razor a while back when it was on special at Countdown.

I changed to the King of Shaves from a Schick Quattro.

It took a couple of days to get use to the different (flexi) design on it, but now that I am I find it more natural. It took my face about 5 days to get use to the new razor, but now that it is, it is fantastic.

I am finding it is giving me a better shave than the Schick Quattro and a far superior shave to what the Gillette Mach 3 gave me (yeah, I know it's not quite apples-with-apples...)

It is doing especially well around my jaw line, which is an area that I've always struggled to get a good shave of.

I also skipped a day of shaving, so the following day when I shaved I was expecting it to do some pulling as it cut (all my previous razors had) but the King of Shaves didn't!! As smooth a shave as though I had shaved the previous day!

Like the Schick Quattro, the blades have a great life - I've been using the Kings of Shaves razor for just on 5 weeks now (might even be 6) and I am still using the first blades. It is just starting to loose it's edge so will sharpen it on some jeans and keep on going.

I was gutted when I went back to Countdown to see if they had refills on special only to find no refills and no King of Shaves razors. Looks like my local Countdown has dropped King of Shaves altogether. :(

(I am currently using Nivia Sensitive shaving cream)

Son uses this 3 blade sci fi looking razor along with his shaving cream & aftershave, talk about pampering yourself! Me? Any cheap bic razor and some soap will do for this tuff guy..

Does anyone know where to get a blade shaver? I want to try using one of those instead of using a normal razor that I am now. They're bloody expensive and I reckon it would pay for it self in a few months.

Anyone know a source and how much?

i was nervous when i got the new nivia sensitive gel, and it said "new formula".... thankfully, it still seems to work ok.

as for the King of shaves razors, i bought some off of 1-day a month or so back - keep your eyes on the 1-day sites for good specials.  also, you should be able to buy online from www.kingofshaves.co.nz

Try here http://www.mancave.co.nz/

I just ordered their cheapest one today (Feather safety razor - $25) on recommendation from a friend - will share with you all how it goes. They have replacement blades on there as well, however I spotted some packs of blades in my local countdown so might try them instead.

networkn: Hi There!

I went into a supermarket yesterday and found that they have finally released the Gillette ProGlide 5 Blade system. I bought one and after having not shaved in the weekend shaved in the shower as I normally do using Shave Oil from King of Shaves.

Best $17 I spent this month!

After reading this I am now popping down to Pinch & Save and buy me one

PS I will pay for the item and not actually steal it

I am using a Philips shaver which I actually got free from work (worth about $220) - Works very well since I have very sensitive skin and found it hard to use regular shavers. I found the best one I found was the Gillette Vibrating one (can't remember the name) which didn't cause much irritation along with Gillette Sensitive. Might give King of Shaves a go.
