They're very nice.  Not sure I'd want to drop $100k on one though.  My A4 is almost 8 years old, but I'd like to switch to a Petrol S4 if I don't go EV for my next car.

Honestly, if that was 100K I'd buy it today :) 140k wouldn't fly though.

Found this NZ review of a 2017 Audi S4 sedan

https://www.drivelife.co.nz/2017/05/2017-audi-s4-car-review-first-class-express/

It may be down a little bit on Torque to your old BMW's power (230kW \ 630N), but the Audi will still get to the naughty side of the speed limit with ease..

On the 2019 RS 4, I'll have mine in Sonoma Green, there was one briefly in that color on the Armstrong Audi Wellington lot a couple of weeks back. Looks good.

I wouldn't consider the Audi S4 without Sports diff and Dynamic Steering. It's an almost different car with those two options fitted, but as NZ New they are as rare as hens teeth.

3.0 TDi Touareg a trip from Auckland to the Top of the Bruce Rd at Mt Ruapehu (altitude a lttle over 1600m) averaged about 7.2 L/100km. Coming home it was 7.0. Driving to work yesterday there was really good traffic flow and made it in averaged 7.2L/100km... I thought that was amazing. There was some sort of traffic cluster on the way home, it took 50min at average 15kph and consumption went up to around 12L/100km! Traffic congestion wastes a lot of fuel (I disabled the auto stop/start so it didn't kill my starter motor and battery as I inched my way home).

I'm curious what's drawing you to the S4, having a 335d xDrive already, but leads fuel economy to be a big deal? ;)

One of the reasons I ask is that, not sure about the B9, but (I'm sure you're probably aware) the B8 fuel economy was so variable depending how you drive it. Just because it *can* achieve ~8L/100km, doesn't mean you'll get that if you're hammering it all round the place.

I get great fuel economy out of my BMW. I am filling up about every 10 days. When I had my petrol I was filling up every 6.

I should get some actual numbers out to have a look at.

Fuel economy isn't a HUGE deal, but my original calculation was that the S4 was twice as thirsty as the 335D and if that had been the case, given the performance is similar....

You'd choose a 4 over a 6?

THe 4 is too small for me - can barely get 4 sets of golf clubs in the boot and the back seats have little room. 3 Series BMW used to be the same - haven't looked at those for a while though.

Well, I don't want to be greedy... However, if it goes well, then I'll probably stump up and go the 6 :)

There's a BMW with 230kW / 630Nm ? Is it 4wd?

BMW 335.  Think they're rear wheel drive though.  Part of the reason I chose a Quattro Audi over the BMW...and I preferred the look.

When I went to see BMW originally and they said their xDrive was as good as the Audi Quattro I laughed in their face. They had the last laugh. It's exceptional. Seriously.

The 335i I had before it was RWD only, and it was rubbish. So much power, next to no grip, over zealous traction control systems that more than once left me in a compromised position (Accelerate from stopped across an intersection, car jumps forward, traction control freaks out and applies the brakes, left sitting in the middle of the intersection). It was a nice car overall, but those sort of things really ruined it for me. The xDrive changed everything, and the adaptive suspension and steering.
