bbrichau: Hi !
the 2M requirement is related to impedance issues with HDMI active gear below 2M
Handshaking issues occur when it is not 2M and they also all have to be 2M (same length) or longer. And beware (this is getting interesting) up to 10M you are ok but over 10M you may need HDMI boosters
cheers
Bart

Whats the best way to handle this at the TV end of the setup? 2m of HDMI cable seems like a lot to hide behind a wall mounted TV.

And get some 90deg hdmi adapters if needs be, so you aren't munching it to fit around a tight corner afterwards.

Ha! Luckily I get some pretty good trade prices, so boxes of CAT6 + RG6 are not a big issue.

Will take a look at your site - might hit you up for some HDMI cables

I've got 30cm ones between my boxes and the wall mounted displays without issue.

When ordering hdmi bend adapters be aware that left and right angle ones are not the same between all sellers so look at the pictures. Same for the up and down ones.

Another handy thing is a USB to DC male plug cable so you can power the TV end of the cat6 extender off the TVs otherwise useless USB port.

For HDMI cables - try these.
http://www.avsupply.co.nz/shop/hdmi-cables/90-sanus-super-slim-hdmi-cables.html
They bend easily, have a super small head and I have had zero issues with any of mine.
There are quite a few of this style of cable around, many of which are used behind TV's when incorporating HDBaseT.

In regards to audio delay on an AVR...
Look for an amp that has 'party mode', this typically sorts any zone 2 audio sync issues you may have.

sure124: New build etc....and I hate having too many options.

Now the audio options I (think) I have to choose from are:

  1. Go with a decent AVR with multizone for main 5.1 setup, and distribute Zone 2 around the place with ceiling speakers and wall plates for volume etc
  2. Stick a specialised audio "hub" in the new enclosure and just have the AVR as one of the sources - e.g. http://www.amazon.com/Leviton-95A00-3-4-Source-Structured-Enclosures/dp/B00BB3HLE8
  3. something else?

I was thinking if I could get most things running through the AVR then I could distribute from there anyway. and how often would I need 4 zones to be playing 4 different sources really?
And I'm ok with pre-wiring the house with more cable than I need into blanked outlets for source/volume control later if appropriate.

hey there, I have option 2 that drives 6 zones around the house and is combined with an Denon AVR driving the home theatre room (5.1), but also feeds back in to the distribution allowing for radio to be pumped around via the AVR second zone.

I have lounge TV acting as a input as well so that I can have TV coming through the ceiling speakers.

Wall mounted controls are nice enough and passed the WAF test.

My next extension is a HDMI matrix.

I have http://www.leviton.com/OA_HTML/ProductDetail.jsp?partnumber=95A00-2&section=61364&minisite=10251 sitting in a rack that feeds 6 zones at the moment around the house and outside. Sources for this is the TV in the family room, AVR for radio, ipod/iphone dock, PC for itunes and spotify.

Works well and IOS app is easy to use.

The configuration software is also good to use too - setting up default volumes when zones turned on, merging zones in to one big zone, etc.

I could have got away with the 4 zone, but was thinking of the future....

I sourced from the USA. From memory it was www.smarthome.com and a few years ago before they became leviton.

I was going to chat with j.a. Russell as the sell leviton products to if they have access to this range.
