FooBar41: Good news -
Dell have arranged for a courier to pick up my laptop (at Dell's expense), and will be providing a full cash refund.

In the end, my brand new XPS 13 had the following defects:
1) Two bright spots in the display
2) Flickering display when brightness is set at 15% - 20%
3) Randomly, temporarily unresponsive trackpad
4) Sometimes trackpad produces a right-click, when clicking on the left side
5) Severely misaligned USB ports and audio jack

For other people considering a purchase from Dell -
It was a tough road getting to this point. The customer service representative could barely speak English, often causing ambiguity. They take days at a time to get back to you, so expect 2 weeks to get the problem sorted. However, they can arrange for a technician to come to your property during business hours, and attempt to fix the laptop. If this doesn't suit your schedule, you cannot courier the laptop to their service centre. If you keep nagging (politely) they may give in and offer a full cash refund.

After my bad experience and reading too many Dell horror stories (poor quality control and customer support), I will never buy from Dell again.

Sounds like a Dell to me. Sorry to say, but you gets for what you pays for.

I'm currently looking for a retail store that has the new DELL XPS 13 on display. According to JB-HI FI they dont have it anymore.
In light of the new Macbook release i need to be able to make an informed decision. Can anyone please help or suggest a place where I can go see it if it is available.

I could be wrong, but I was looking into buying one myself a month or so ago, and couldn't even find anywhere else to buy one from other than Dells website. So reasonably unlikely you'll be able to find one in a retail shop to test

That's what I thought too LazyDr.
I'm kind of surprised that one of the most highly rated functional laptops in the market is not on display at the stores yet you would see all sorts of junk on display for twice the price.

I guess i'll keep watching online reviews of the Dell until the Macbook is on the shelves here before i finalize my decision. It would have been good to have the two side by side. Thanks anyway.

Sorry, but it is unlikely you will be able to find one in store.

If you want a headache, go for the Dell. Although it may be highly rated, their quality control does not come close to Apple - so expect several defects. And their customer service is poor - so be prepared for a long process of repairs/refund.

Sorry for being negative. Simply trying to save you from the problems I had, along with many other Dell customers. If Dell deserved a good recommendation, I would give them one.
