Well... got my connection sorted today.

told i'm on 100/100mbit plan. Might be just Friday?

Connected over LAN using supplied Huawei 630a

Which server did you use for the Auckland result? What's it like if you try the Auckland Spark server?

@Lorenceo, This is to Auckland Spark test.

Same results yesterday.

@BigPipeNZ, no software updates, no downloading.

Will create ticket now with test results.

overall, internet works, and works faster than my BigPipe current ADSL. :)

BUT. I'm not impressed with speed :( Max i could get of torrenting ISOs is 5.5MB/sec once... usually it's between 1.8MB/sec and 4MB/sec

my friends on orcon and max out 100mbps :(

Might be supplied Huawei 630a router, might be traffic shaping (which they don't have, right?)

no traffic shaping on bigpipe and i dont think there will ever be

no throttling or shaping here. Maybe that torrent just wasn't well seeded?

So I thought this might have been something that would resolve itself but I am too on the trial 100/20 plan with the supplied supplied Huawei 630a router and am capping out steam downloads at 5.4MB/s and http direct downloads with 32 concurrent connections at 5 ish MB/s.

Would a better router maximize the plan speed or is there something else causing the issue?

I have only got back into the country today and both 30 days ago and today same speed limitation.

@kobiak - have you seen any improvement since your last post?

Here is steam download from our CTO a couple of weeks ago (on Bigpipe fibre)

suggest you drop our support team a note if you haven't already.

Are your speedtests also capping out at ~40Mbps (5MBps) or are they showing the full 100Mbps (more or less)?

Can you confirm you are testing via ethernet and not using WiFi?

My torrents behave the same, used to run happily at near 100mbps with previous ISP. Speedtests to local and AU servers is pretty much always bang on 100/50, however if I look at my bandwidth graphs I'm noticing regular burst of packet loss, or connections being closed while torrenting. The speed ramps up to 5MB/s, then down to 1, back to 5 and then down to 1 in a very regular pattern. Will post up a screenshot I took yesterday of a very well seeded torrent.

Same hardware used as with previous ISP, repeatable across multiple devices.

thats very interesting behaviour indeed....

have you tried a very large file download from say, LWs speedtest links to see if the same thing happens there?

i personally wouldnt take steam as an example of things working, it multi-threads and is more than happy to drop and restart connections.

NO, I don't have any improvement since last post, 5MB/s is the best... over LAN.

I blame supplied router. Have not got my hands to test without router/different router.

What speeds do you get LAN to LAN with a file copy? Also I'm just assuming you are doing your testing over Ethernet and not Wireless right?

Looks like your upstream is staying reasonably consistent, but downstream seems to be loosing everything..

Thats very odd behaviour.

unlikely, but have you double checked your not seeing an IO flush issue?
