MagicMatt: No, I got that.

I too took back the DSL-AC68U and replaced it with the RT-AC87U (similar to the RT-AC68U).

I want to know how to set this one up with Spark Fibre after upgrading the firmware, as I still cant see the VLAN setting.

Did you see my guide from the link I posted earlier in this thread? It should be exactly the same as setting it up on Vodafone.

I have the 87U as well now, settings are identical to what I posted.

I got it to work!!!

All connected to Spark Fibre broadband with my Asus RT-AC87U.

Thanks to all the above comments and the setup suggested by Corksta - it worked.

All completed.

Hi MagicMatt,

Please follow the steps as given below:
a) Use the Reset button on the Router to reset all settings and configurations to default and switch it OFF.

b) Initially DO NOT connect the WAN port of the Router to the Fibre network.

c) Connect any Ethernet Port ie Port1 to Port4 with a RJ 45 cable to a laptop or PC for your initial configuration. ( use the RJ45 cable that came with the Router )

d) Open your Browser (IE or Chrome) and connect to the Router configuration page with http://192.168.1.1/.

Cancel any setup that the Router does automatically.

e) WAN Setup

Click on WAN button and setup the configuration (as shown in the attached screenshot

) .

Click Apply and save the configuration.

f) LAN Setup

Click on LAN button and setup the VLAN through the IPTV Tab (as shown in the attached screenshot

)

VLAN can only be setup through the IPTV Tab under the LAN setting.

Click Apply to save the configuration.

g) On completion of the above WAN and LAN setup shutdown the Router.

h) Now connect the Fibre Cable ie RJ45 cable that comes from the ONT ( Fibre termination box) to the WAN port of the Router. ( Port that is marked with Internet symbol)

i) Switch ON the Router and leave it connected for few minutes to complete the handshake with Fibre network.

j) Check Internet connectivity on your browser after a few minutes. If you cannot browse the internet then try restarting the router once or twice.

k) Wait patiently and you will eventually get connected.

l) ENJOY FIBRE CONNECTION ON ASUS ROUTER.

Hi there,

What is the difference in these three models Asus DSL-AC68U and Asus RT-AC87U and Asus TR-AC68U?

So just to confirm that the Asus RT-AC87U will connect directly into the Chorus ONT without having to Bridge the connection through Spark cheap Huawei factory Modem Router?

I'm after just a single device to replace my cheap Spark Huawei Modem without having to do any bridging to multiple devices.

it will work as long as you can tag VLAN10 on the wan interface

The RT-ACxxU series, as far as I'm aware, all support Ethernet WAN VLAN tagging and can connect directly to the Chorus ONT. The DSL- series generally do not.

Hi Jason,

I did get the Asus RT-87U to connect directly to the Chorus ONT and work on the ultra fibre network - ie one device only! Took ages to sort, but got there.
Threw out the Technicolour Spark device.
There is a difference between the devices; mainly one is a DSL modem/router while the other is a router that works with fibre. Dont know about the TR model though.
Jase 2985 is correct that it must be configured to VLAN10 to work. Took a while to find this as it is not intuitive. There is a setting to enable IPTV which you have to go to enable and select VLAN10.
The down side is that two Ethernet ports are then designated for IPTV and not general network connectivity. I think this addessed Inphinity's comment.

Good luck - but stick with the RT-87U. It is good. Only think is not as useful for access control to use for denying access for kids devices at the flick of a switch (easily anyway).

The RT-AC87U is only a router, not a VDSL modem so no.

I'm using an RT-AC68U bridged to my Technicolur modem on Spark VDSL. I find the wireless performance excellent.

Can anyone confirm that the DSL-AC68U works with fibre now or not? ASUS claims it does but that's not what I'm reading in this thread. Perhaps firmware updates have remedied things. I would like an "all in one" modem/router with strong wifi and it would be nice if I didn't have to sell it when fibre eventually becomes available at my address.

Hi, no it doesn't even if you do the firmware update. You need to get tge RT series router to work on fibre.
