This is where your router tries to redirect you in order to display a message saying your internet connection is not working.
Sometimes it can break things. Is there a way to disable WAN down spoofing on these modems?

I put the DNS in the router so my phone could use the data. easier to put it in one place than each device. however that is back to default
You don't need to touch the DNS - the DNS server settings are already in the router and handed out to devices connected to WiFi via DHCP.
Put all your devices back to default. If the issue happens again, I would find what the last device was that attached to the LAN before the so called DNS issue happened again. Then turn all the computers and cell phones off. Then power off and on the RBI modem. Then start 1 computer up make sure it is working ok, then the next device and so on. I beat it is something on your network, a single device causing the issue.
Also cell sites knows nothing about a end users DNS because of GTP-U.A cell site doesn't know the difference between someone doing a DNS lookup or someone watching a youtube video.
So far so good
have had around 3 pages come up with a error then without touching anything it reloads, i have forgotten what the error was but it didn't say anything about DNS this time. will print screen if i see it again.
As i read your comments i realise some other things i should have said
I have a asus rtn56u set up as a ap into the spark router, this is still in use, i did have a tp link router with gargoyle firmware in it, it was set up as a ethernet connection to the spark router specifying its own range of ip separate range to spark range.
this setup worked for 2-3 months no worries, one week into the issue's i turned off the gargoyle router and it has not been back on and still had problems for 3 weeks.
Maybe it could have been the Gargoyle router, but seems far fetched to me as it been off for a while, then the fault changed to permanent until i reset the spark router and flushed dns in the computers.
what do you guys think.
thanks for the help so far
Chris
Also ran out of time before goning to work but around the time it started i suscibed ot netsheild, on the day it got better i unsubscribed, i was trying to make things simlpe to help find the fault
i used it mainly for internet on / off to keep my kids from going on late into the ninght.
i didnt used it as a filter as it seem to block too may things like frewza boat vids for example, i have no idea if frewza means somthing else.
i did think this may have had something to do with it as well so it did spend most of the time off, (off is still sunscribed too just not used).
Chris
Its been going very well until today,
Yesterday around 12:40 i re subscribe to netshield and today (24 hours later) internet slow and then i get this error
This site can’t be reached
www.trademe.co.nz took too long to respond.
Try:
ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT
Did a ipconfig /dnsflush, starts working again
but stop in a min or two
unsubscribed from netshield and the connection(page loading seems faster)
and all is good
i have no idea why this would be but im going to stay away from netshield, It is the only thing that has changed in almost three weeks.
all i wanted netshield for was to turn off the internet at night so my tenagers don't game all night.
any ideas on how i can auto off the router overnight with the huawei B316
Cheers
Chris
ChrisL: To stop gaming at 3am before school, he's to big to beat with a stick.
Sounds like you need a bigger stick.
This seems like a valid issue, It's the first case I'm hearing of it relating to net shield though.
I'll have a chat with folk.
