I switched over to Skinny today from One NZ, and decided to use my own netgear Orbi RBR20 routers as there's nothing wrong with them. I literally almost wasted my entire day trying to "fix" the router because of the wrong login info that they have for configuring your own BYO router.
Not until I called the call centre I got something different and since then it works fine. So sharing the deets here incase anyone else needs it.
Below are the details you need to set up your third party router with Skinny Fixed Broadband. You will need to utilize the manufacturer's guide for your third party modem to configure it to work with Skinny Fixed Broadband. Not all third party modems will be compatible with Skinny Fixed Broadband, and we cannot guarantee the connection will be the same standard as our excellent Skinny Smart Modem.
We can not provide any technical support while using your third party modem, and this includes but is not limited to standard troubleshooting, line checks etc.
For Fibre
PPP Protocol: PPPoE
VLAN Tagging: Off / Disabled / No
PPP Username/Password: anything, just not blank. For example, skinny/skinny
Obtain IP address automatically
Obtain DNS servers automatically

PPP Username/Password: anything, just not blank. For example, skinny/skinny
So the Skinny provided details of
PPP Username: user@skinny.co.nz
PPP Password: password
are perfectly acceptable and will work then.
