sidefx: Yeah, my situation is very similar too: I'm moving to the Amazon Jungle and have 8 months left on my contract. Don't see why I should pay the ETF when it's a coverage issue; Vodafone why you got no coverage in the Amazon anyway?

Jokes aside.. But unforseen circumstances put some people in difficult situations.. and sarcasm doesnt really help..

I think we all understand that, but I don't think you are seeing the commercial reality here. VF is not responsible for your unfortunate/unforseen circumstances and there are options available to you, such as Sure Signal. Whilst I understand your point of view, it's just not reasonable to expect VF to pay for your circumstances, if they did this for everyone, they simply wouldn't make enough money to make it worth investing the millions they do in providing infrastructure.

I never for once mentioned in my post that vodafone should waive the fees.. I actually put the fault on the user (customer) for not always reading the terms and conditions properly.. myself included in that.. :)

Its just unfortunate or unforseen coz its no one's fault that the area you move to has bad reception.. it is what it is and we have to find ways to live with it..

And the remedy I suggested earlier in this thread has nothing to do with putting the fault on vodafone.. its just having a work around to get things going..

I think people most times do have a choice on where they move to, and for me, if I was to move the two most important things to ANY location I considered would be the presence of UFB/VDSL and secondly good VF Coverage, as these are priorities for me. Before this person moved it was an option for him to go to the site and have a wander around to check coverage and opt to not move there if he was unhappy.

I think within a reasonable timeframe you can walk away from a contract like this under NZ law.  Although it's usually about 7 days.  You might be pressing your luck a month in, but it would be worth asking.  If you speak to the right people, Vodafone may prefer you leave on good terms, you just never know.
