Hi Team,

Its great to see performance improve as the server providers along with Vodafone have made clever changes.

Twitch is very popular and on a huge growth phase.
I look forward to when they have a Australian/New Zealand presence for watching a stream. Its great to see they have a Sydney ingestion server.
Twitch like the games that it streams is very sensitive to server, network and PC conditions.

I report each time i see it buffer within the application and have asked via the support portal for the twitch team to assess how together with my ISP Vodafone connectivity can be improved.

I have disabled P2P and increased the buffering used in Flash which smoothed out most streams.
http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager09.html

I have also looked at third party tools like  http://tards.net/ that works better for the Kiwi's and Austrlian cousins who are over 100ms+ from the server.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/comments/26s9y7/im_developing_software_to_stop_lagbuffering/

I hope that some of this was useful and please let me know if Flash tweaks and Tards app helps you like they did me.

cheers,
Techie

Surely that tards.net site is a joke?

Did anyone really install that software?

im personally not keen on tards too.

There is another program, Liverstreamer, which certainly presents itself more professionally.

Livestreamer also supports multi-threading which does seem to help.

disabling P2P shouldnt matter as last i checked, twitch do not use that feature.

Folks please tell me you didn't install a program with access to your network connection from that site. Please don't.

winkSo does Prince Kufour Otumfuo from Nigeria who purportedly wants to give me a 20% slice of his $30M inheritance.  Must remember to respond to his email.
( I can't tell if hio77 is being serious or not!)

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

i thought that was apparent by my comments of not being keen on it.

Yes, absolutely sarcastic, i took one look at the site when mentioned a few days ago commented on the developers lack of detail in how it works and returned to the open source solution which is well documented.

Sorry, just re-read the last few posts and just now realised you were referring to tards, and not Livestreamer.

Thanks for the pointer on other applications that look to allow smooth streaming of Twitch.tv. :)

For twitch, ild certainly use caching, Consider looking at HLS threading too.

Further to this thread, has anyone being having issues getting to stuff and NZ Herald over the last month? I'm on Voda cable and it's taking 20 or 30 seconds to load pages (no matter what browser I use). DNS is set based on Voda website, looking at trace routes it appears to go round the houses to get to both websites (see below). Anyone have any thoughts, suggestions?

The most obvious difference is that w1.apnnz.com resolves to 184.154.131.18 for you and 203.99.69.23 for me. Your packets go on a world trip to reach a New Zealand site.  Is your browser set to use an overseas proxy server?

Edit:

Just in case...

telstaclear primary DNS 203.97.78.43
telstaclear secondary DNS 203.97.78.44

or when the above act up:

paradise secondary DNS 203.96.152.12

nzherald has terrible geo load balancing.  stuff is using akamai that can be hit and miss.

it's probably dns server related.  even if it's listed, maybe it's using a "new" ip address, and nzherald assumes it should go to the US.
