I was under the impression he was getting zero coverage (3G & 2G).  Even though everyone else around him is gettng coverage.

Like johnr said troubleshooting these issues is just going through a process of elimination.

jesseycy:

Hmm, this might sound ridiculous...

But "how" do you know you don't have 3G service?  Some phones, like mine, don't exactly have a "3G" symbol, even though it's on 3G...  Tried video calling, and does a popup say that video calling is not available (or etc)???

All 3G phones I have used (its alot) have a 3G icon when in 3G coverage!!

What phone have you got?

thanks for the advice so far, it's been most useful and i've learned something, although we couldn't come to the solution.

in the meantime.... i have got 3G back up! that's the good news. bad news, 1 SIM still has no coverage, the other SIM does have coverage, I can call people, but I can't access the internet with it for some reason, and the 3 SIM has all the functionalities that it should.

so i'm still scratching my head a bit.

in regards to how i knew i didn't have service, well i couldn't even make a call. it just said "call failed".
if u can't even use a phone to call people, it's rendered useless to me really.

although i at least have 2 SIMS i can use again, i will try out that 06 number anyway. cause i still find it odd one SIM still gives me no coverage. i think it was the SIM my friend used to surf the net. but as i said. 150MB is peanuts. we're not talking hundreds of gigs here.

Um 150MB on a Casual data plan @ $11.25 per mb is $1687.5
All prepay customers are on this and this rate is the same rate you cannot opt into a special data rate.
All on-account customers are on this unless they have opted into paying the data allowance.

guti:
i bought it on trademe. i think it's a parallel import, but 1) i've bought many phones on TM through PImporters and have had no problem with those and 2)the company on trade me i bought the maxx from had many stars and positive points so i wouldn't consider them as something of a "dodgy" seller.

what are some of the reasons it could be blacklisted? excessive internet use? i lend it to a japanese friend of mine for a while cause his host parents don't have internet. he said he spend a night watching youtube videos. i'm guessing in total he might've used up 150MB max give or take. would that be enough to blacklist a phone? that'd be extreme.

Dunno who came up with the idea of having a phone blacklisted but it has completely got nothing to do with that

.There are problems with parallel handsets with vodafone's 3g network thru vodafone Live

I have the same problem with Nokia N73,Sony Ericsson W910i and Sony Ericsson k850i

Its ok for me though because i don't use vodafone live

There's nothing you can do.its a matter of luck

if i recall correctly I changed my product code of my n73 thats why for some reason it no longer works with Vlive but I got a N73 Internet edition and it worked

Its not the sellers fault either because if you use maxx v6 in another country like Hong Kong you have full access of their network

its just Vodafone nz is stupid

I know

Motorola E1070 doesnt work
Nokia 6260 doesnt work
Nokia 6288 works with Vlive
W910i doesnt work
k850i doesnt work
S500i doesnt work ( not 3g)
W580i doesnt work ( not 3g)
Nokia 6290 doesnt work
Nokia 7390 works
Nokia 7373 works ( not 3g)
Nokia 7370 works
Nokia 7270 doesnt work (Not 3g)
Nokia 7270 doesnt work (not 3g)
Nokia N70 works
Nokia 6680 works
nokia 6120 doesnt work
N73 works but doesnt work after you modify the product code
Motorola Maxx V6 doesnt work
Nokia N76 doesnt work
Nokia n81 works

I never used a phone bought from voda store. I always buy imported, coz it is cheaper, so I'm not really sure if the performance of vodafone branded handsets will be the same. from my experience with voda internet connection speed and reliability, I can say that it is very unstable, inconsistent in general. symbian os phones work fine on vodafone, coz I used p990i and n93. but when it comes to windows mobile, my samsung n320 can't even connect sometimes. my 750v get poor 3g signal and unstable speed or even dropped internet signal.
telecom is ROCK SOLID, now I'm very happy on telecom now without any problems.

I finally lost my confidence in voda, and switch to telecom, I'm now very happy with my 700wx! I don't wanna go back to voda unless they improve.

There is a forum thread started by Mauricio: Vodafone New Zealand and parallel imported handsets (back in September, it's locked now)

Mauricio posted the official Vodafone position on parallel inported handsets, and there was a bit of debate around the subject, obviously this can be an emotive issue.

I have bought parallel imports before (not phones, how about a motorcycle), and "you pays your money, you takes your chances". You cannot blame companies for not supporting these devices, if there is a genuine issue with the network Vodafone will sort it, if you have an issue with a parallel import handset, Vodafone will refer you to: http://www.vodafone.co.nz/personal/help/help-and-manuals/parallel-imports.jsp

ninjabear's list of handsets that will or won't work is useful stuff, but Vodafone can't be held responsible for this - they don't sell these handsets.

I have an official Vodafone supplied Nokia, and have no issues with the network - I'm posting this through it, from the top of a mountain!

I found it interesting that harrylin lost confidence with vodafone when he wasn't using their (official) phones!  (Way off topic, I know...)  Butt...  It's good to have the other forums listed, both for me to review and for newbies!

The fact that vodafone live cannot recognize it is a 3g handset and the fact that it works on other network overseas in uk...

The mobiles I meantioned are from Nokia hong kong direct if you buy it thru some other parallel shops that are not by nokia hk it is different again  so i would be careful

Try not to use vodafone live.lol..its very expensive.

You can find most of the games from vodafone available on other website.

There are websites like clickgamer where there's heaps of games to choose.

Here's some more models that wont work with Vlive

Nokia 6230i
Nokia 3110
Nokia 8250
Nokia 8310

The other models I have not tried because I never sold it on trademe. If i do sell one I'll surely see if vodafone live works because I have been quite curious which ones does and don't work
