Anyone know where the nodes / congested nodes are?

We're in Berhampore, and I've just checked (Speedtest - 18:30-ish) and we're getting our advertised 50/2.

Mt Cook is not quite as bad. I just got 66/10 on my 130/10 connection.

I admit that I am not that fussed any more as I cancelled my Cable service yesterday with my last day being at the beginning of August. Cable has served me pretty damn well these last 16 years, even with hiccups like this but I have fibre as well and am moving to 200/20 with Bigpipe. I just can't argue with a faster service and a monthly saving of ~$160 on my flat's current comms bill.

Island Bay.   75/10 of 100/10.  Worse than usual for 8pm.

Just checked again and we're still getting 50/2. I'd assume Island Bay and Berhampore are being served from the same node. Kind of undermines paying the extra $10 a month for faster speed. I would have thought everyone would be running at (say) 50% or 75% of their theoretical max, but it actually looks like I'm getting 100% of 50Mb and you're getting 75% of 100Mb.

Every evening is different, but the worst speed is almost always at 9pm.

Until 2 weeks ago I was getting less than 20% of 100Mbps at 9pm - then it suddenly improved (VF hardware upgrade?)

Supposedly these upgrades will be complete by late August.

Brumfondl: I reckon you might be getting MB(yte) mixed up with Mb(it).

Yep, my bad. I did mean 1Mb.

10Mb is about 1.2MB/sec upload so if that is what you are getting then your upstream is about as advertised. Your downstream seems pretty standard for peak time at the moment but if you are seeing that off-peak then you may have some other issue.

I'm not seeing 1.2MB/sec unfortunately.

I see others on this thread saying they are getting 10. Something must be wrong. Like I said, whether I'm uploading like on Google photo, everything is affected even just general web surfing.

I would say you definitely have a different issue and should log a fault if you haven't already.

It does sound like a different thing. Are you testing over WiFi?

Just a quick update. I now have a working 100/10 plan. The speed I'm getting is like night and day.

It was actually two problems. I was still on the old 50/2 plan. Vodafone support were really good - got changed over to the correct plan. It worked great when my desktop was plugged direct into my cable modem.

After getting off the phone I plugged my desktop back into my wireless router and I was back to the crappy performance. So I looked at my wireless router settings and discovered my subnet mask was incorrectly set to 255.0.0.0. These settings were given to me by the Vodafone tech who installed my modem 19 months ago - I still have his written down settings on the box. Changed it to 255.255.255.0 and ZOMG it's fantastic. My Google Photos uploads are super fast and I can actually use the Internet at the same time.

Double check your settings is my advice.
