Does it need PPPoE set up as well in order to use your own router?

I set up my Edgerouter Lite and managed to get it to pull down an IP to VLAN 10 but still not working.

Rather than just add the new interface maybe I should have re-run the setup wizard?

<snip>

I have exactly the same problem - I've tried and failed with an ERL-3 and with an ER-X, with and without the setup wizard (with latest firmware).

I get an IP to VLAN 10, but still not working ...  frown

Is this a firewall problem?

The ERL-3 and the ER-X both worked perfectly with the old fixed IP HFC cable.

Have you checked that you have set up your NAT Masquerade rule correctly? It needs to have the correct interface specified. (I've screwed this one up a couple of times previously)

I have a static IP being sorted for me today so that particular problem will go away anyway.

For anyone who doesn't know already you can get a static IP for $5 extra a month - you dont need to buy the whole $20 'Internet Pack'.

All FibreX connections are DHCP. A "static" IP on FibreX is just a reserved DHCP allocation. It's essentially the same thing from the outside looking in (my IP is always 203.xxx.xxx.xxx), but in terms of configuring your router, it needs to be set up to obtain the WAN settings via DHCP.

Thank you. smile

I changed the outbound interface from eth0 to eth0.10 - but it still doesn't work.

EDIT

5 minutes later, it DOES work!!!!

THANK YOU @Bugzptr   smile

Got mine setup today and getting good speeds 943/100.

Has anyone had luck with DD-WRT or TP-Link WDR4300 stock firmware? I run a few services that I'd like to keep going and not have to change everything over to the HG659.

The Stock HG659 looks interesting. Main page says no internet connection.

I also see the DNS addresses have changed to 203.109.191.1 , 203.118.191.1 - I am yet to figure out how to redirect this to my pi-Hole on the stock settings so the pesky adds are back...

For anyone who's being silly enough to run pfsense under VMware as their firewall, don't spend two hours forgetting that you need to handle the tags at the VM host level too. That was quite irritating.

tagging must be enabled on the NIC itself, otherwise ESXi will strip it.

Often its more effective to use 4095 as your VLAN setting within ESXi as then you are free to use both tagged and untagged interfaces, on any vlan you specify within your pfsense instance.

Same goes for your LAN interface if you intend to be pumping multiple VLANs on your internal network.

I have an ASUS RT-N66U running merlin firmware.  I have Fibre-x woking fine with the WAN port tagged to VLAN 10 however I rarely get download speeds above 300-400Mb on speedtest to Vodafone servers.  Anyone know what might be causing this?  Is it a limitation of my router?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Have you tried switching on CTF (Cut Through Forwarding) - Software optimization technique to accelerate NAT?

Thanks for the advice on getting the Edgerouter Lite going - all working now. THANKS @Bugzptr

Any advice on tuning it? - don't seem to be getting the same speeds down as with the vodafone supplied one - getting pretty consistent 20 megs up though.

Go into the terminal and enable hardware offload. Look at this: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=66&topicid=197870

I am writing a guide for the Edgerouter in the next few days.

That did the trick - straight from circa 135 down to 195.

Thanks.

Look forward to reading your edgerouter guide.

I'm having the same issue as speshnz.

Vodafone suplied router:

11/9/2016
7:15 PM 7 875.63 96.30 < 50 Wellington ACSData

My R8000 - connected directly to the cable modem, with vlan 10

11/9/2016
7:56 PM 9 180.53 86.02 < 50 Wellington ACSData

Solved

Turn off QoS, and traffic meter (which I never realised was enabled).

I have got open-wrt on my Tp-Link wdr4300 going but slowly 150/100. Has anyone with open-wrt been able to get full speed any tips on settings? This is my first time using open-wrt I normally use dd-wrt but i was unable to get it to work.

I have got a network card for pfsense on its way to me so I might have to struggle through with the stock router for a while.
