CJPhoto: If you want to be really tricky, go onto a iPhone 60 plan to get a bigger subsidy, down grade that to iPhone 40 (for free), use the 3Gb data for the first three months then terminate (or wait till 6 months are up to get the cheaper termination fee).

Is this really true downgrade for free from $60 to $40 surely not

Magnum mac have just rung me also to say they cannot sell without signing a contract :(

Surely there must be a fee for downgrading? If not, why not go for the iPhone $130 plan, and downgrade from there. That would save hundreds more. But im sure vodafone would have a charge for swappin to a cheaper plan.

I asked Vodafone on Twitter if there was a subsidy penalty for breaking a contract within the first 3 months and they said yes. But didn't say where it was specified. Who knows, they could have said to draw us away from this possibility.

There is no information on the vodafone site to support this, and when i talked to the team instore, they told me there would be no extra charges for disconnecting. Vodafone has clearly stated the price of disconnection on their site for 0-6 months. I dont think they could just throw other charges in without any prior mention.

Thats what I was basing it on. I asked inshop and the girl had no idea. I didn'[t push further as teh website is very clear.

Wow looks like your right!? Thats a big oversite. It will only work going from iPhone $60 to iPhone $40. Sounds like a plan!

Can vodafone change these plan change and disconnection fees on a whim, or do they have to stick to what they have advertised? You would think they Would have to stick their advertised prices. We could end up screwed if they change it.

Well from what I can see the downgrade from iPhone $60 to $40 only saves a max of $50..

Yeah true, $50 is $50! If you get the $100 credit for the "exclusive offer" (I just got the email about it) then you can get a 3GS for $899!

oh yeah, i just got it too. So there is an exclusive offer after all! Sweet looks like i will be buying online. Will still go with the disconnecting strategy though.

If you put all of these strategys together, you can get an iphone 3gs with no contract for:
$749 - 32GB iPhone 3GS on iphone $60 contract (this is including the $100 off exclusive offer)
$0 - Switch to iphone $40 plan
$80 - 2 months contract fees (Assuming you need to give 1 months disconnect notice, and assuming you switch - to iphone $40 straight away and get charged for that)
$350 - Early Disconnect fee for iphone $40 (assuming no GST is stacked on top of this)

Total = $1179 ($200 cheaper than buying outright)

This is the exact price for the 16GB model. So you get a 32GB for the price of a 16GB. Might be worth doing.

Hey as I just mentioned on a related thread:

"If you do sign up for the pre-registration offer, and then break the contract, I understand that you will lose a pro-rata amount of the account credit (if you qualify for it).
From the Vf T&C's:

(f) At our discretion, if you terminate your Agreement prior to the expiry of
the Term for any reason other than our default:
(i) you will repay to us any credit we have given against your account,
pro-rated to the length of the Term remaining; and (ii) any credit
remaining on the account will not be used to set off any Charges or
early termination charges.

The $100 pre-reg bonus is an account credit, so by cancelling after a month you will probably forfeit 23/24 remaining months of this, i.e. you will get about $4 credit.

That is the way I understand it anyway, any other thoughts?"

But I think as far as the $350 fee is concerned, that is the only fee you will be due..

but for me it's the 3GB of data... I'm going to tether that to my Macbook Pro and use it!

Hopefully you find some reliable 3G spot on Vodafone so you are not surfing the web on GPRS
