BrentR: I've done Skype on both networks and found VF to be a bit better. XT had similar latency but the voice quality wasn't the greatest. Still very usable. I was using E71 on XT and N86 on VF, both were using Nimbuzz as the VOIP app.

To make that a fair test though , ithink you should try the same app on both phones.

I could be wrong, as ive never used a 3rd party SIP client much.

Paul's comment is less neutral than you think ;) Data often costs more than phone calls, so it's entirely possible they get even more money out of you than if you just called! But hey, as he says - if you want to use up your KB then go for it. Telecom would likely take the same stance. As would 2degrees, but you'd have to be an idiot to use data on 2degrees at all.

Skype uses between 3-16 kilobytes/sec when in an active call (depending on network conditions)

Say a caller was using 10kbps on a skype call, that user could talk for 15 minutes and only use up 9MB of data.

On Vodafone Supa PrePay, that call would only cost $1 in data charges/

If that user called someone for 89c a minute through their mobile, it would cost them $13.35.

Much cheaper to use VoIP.... (not always as convenient though)

Who makes 15min calls on prepay?

I pay nowhere near 89c/min.. If I used only my mins, and didnt include free weekends etc, then i pay 42c/min... making that same call costs me $6.30..

However i have 3GB+ to use on mobile devices p/month which i dont use more than 2GB, then over Skype it would be free.

That same Skype call on your favorite 2D would be $4.50
