Back to my old router and my download speeds are less than half of what they were this week but my upload is much lower than the new modem

Ok,

Borrowed a Siemens Gigaset from another mate and here are the results.

The problem certainly is the router not liking the Vodafone network which does not make sense

Last Result:
Download Speed: 16881 kbps (2110.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 982 kbps (122.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 22 ms
Jitter: 1 ms

It actually does make a lot of sence (if you understand the finer parts of how DSL works).

There are lots of compatibility issues with various brands of modems and DSLAM/ISAM line cards deployed by providers. Broadcom are by far the biggest DSL chipset maker, and modems that have Broadcom chipsets are typically the most robust.

The list of modems that deliver poor performance on Telecom's DSL network is fairly long also, particularly with the new Ikanos VDSL2 cards that are now being deployed. Older Linksys modems are useless, as are many of the Dlinks. Even the move from the older DSLAMS to the new ISAMS with ADLS2+ only line cards prevented some modems including older Dlinks from even being able to sync.

Is the mtu the same for both the Gigaset and Netgear routers?

Although if you have spoken to the Netgear helpdesk, it appears to be something they will ask you to set to a smaller size as one of their solutions.

MTU on the Gigaset is 1492. Tried both 1492 and 1500 on the netgear with same results
