I am pretty certain it is the speaker against the door frame as the speaker is secured to the bare metal door panel. If it isnt very rigid, do you think this may be happening?

I was looking at this as it mentions it is good if used when mounting your speaker to a metal baffle like a car door or rear deck lid.

Take the speakers back out and stick some thin foam tape strips to the flat surface that contacts the door frame and the speaker, that should help but rattles like this in an old car will never go. You might get rid of one then because that one has gone you will hear another.

Now that you mention its a 20+ YO ute it sounds more likely that they used a common ground (possibly even the chassis) for one of the speaker connections. Best thing for you to do would be to replace the entire speaker cables from the head unit to the speakers to eliminate this as the issue.

Well it wouldn't hurt. What is the max/rms wattage of each speaker/channel ?

Dynamat is worth every cent! Had a '85 Hilux with Chevy 350 in it and the vibrations were pretty terrible some times. Stripped the cab back and put Dynamat everywhere. Was awesome after that. Also built a new fiberglass dash board and door cards which probably helped too. Expensive stuff but totally worth it.

Oh and your speaker fault just sounds like a terminal is earthing out. Seen it on parcel trays where people have tried to squeeze stuff in there.

Dynamat is primarily designed to deadening noise like engine noise and road noise etc.

The vibration will most likely be caused by either the speakers moving and vibrating against something or the sound waves from the speakers causing something to move and vibrate. Resonance is possibly at the root of the vibration and this is one area where something like Dynamat can change the resonance of a panel and therefore stop the vibration.

Before you buy anything do as I suggested, find what is vibrating. E.G. if you press against the section of panel where the speaker is mounted does the vibration stop?, does the vibration stop when you press against the speaker rim?, can you see the panel vibrating?

+1 for running new cable from each speaker back to the head unit.
The factory loom in this old beast may not be good as it used to be.

I wouldn't go racing out to place the wiring just yet. It's a big job to do properly and unless the vehicle has been mucked around with and it's in generally good condition the wiring is most likely in good condition. Sure if the current wiring uses the vehicle chassis for one leg of the speaker circuit then there just might be a case to run new wires but not necessarily.

It's easy to check if the current system uses the chassis as one leg. Does the current speaker wiring have two wires that go back into the loom or can you see one of the wires connected to the chassis? Are both wires multi coloured? Usually any earth wires are black with no other colours on the wire. If they are both multi coloured or at least another colour than solid black then it's most unlikely the chassis is used for one leg of the speaker circuit.

Do the simple stuff first, trust me, I've seen it time and time again where people go after the complicated solution to a simple problem.

I have played around with the tightness of the mounting screws which has reduced the vibration the speaker is making with the door. I found that the noise I had been most trying to eliminate was that of the speaker itself, first time owning a car and speakers.

All seems good now, so thanks for the help :)
