mattwnz:
zhuyan: On the Boxing Day, I only ended up with one external harddrive 2TB @ $92, a couple of Sony Noise Cancelling Headphones for $35 each and one xbox 360 media drive 320Gb @ $99

Was tempted to get one Windows RT then decided against it as I don't really need it anyway and also as someone pointed out here above that RT is going to be a dead platform... $300 plus a smart cover for another $160 or sth for a windows tablet, not that special price at all or was it?

You don't need the keyboard cover, you can just use it as a tablet like the ipad, and I don't think the keyboard covers are all that durable, as have read about them splitting over time. You can buy a cheap normal cover off ebay for less than $20 delivered.
RT isn't a dead platform as Microsoft have just released the surface 2 which uses it. Plus it installs software from the normal windows 8 app store.
One of it's major benefits is that IE allows you to view flash websites. Plus it is a good size and aspect ratio for wtching tv/video, unlike the ipad. It's build quality is also very good, not quite as good as an ipad, and better than many of the other tablets.

I have had various Surface Touch & Type Covers since October 2012 myself and none of them have split, have seen this happen to the odd one and they are replaced quick smart under warranty

joker97: I got an Asus transformer that has a keyboard. Lousy mouse clicks. You have to press nearly a centimetre to click anything so the cursor moves! Oh well I didn't want to pay 2k for a xps 12

you get what you pay for.  Personally I use my T100 with an external wireless mouse because of this. Or just use the touch screen

I spent precisely zero dollars in the sales.

I was however interested to note that, after a year in which the press has been filled with stories about how poor we all are here, how dire the economy is etc we see this in the press:

"Retailers are "over the moon" at record Boxing Day sales on Thursday. Spending was up 12 per cent on last year at $134.4 million nationwide, according to the latest Paymark figures.

Paymark, which processes about three-quarters of New Zealand's electronic transactions, says the sales have put an additional $14.4 million in retailers' pockets compared to the same day last year.

It follows record-breaking sales on Christmas Eve - Paymark's busiest day ever - when $238.4 million went through the network, 18.5 per cent up on the same day in 2012."

You have to wonder where all the money comes from...!

Already haver a nice phone, laptop that works and a PC that works.  I backed up my HD to the 2 internals and the 1 external, ran a few software to clean crud, updated my Windows 7 image file.

Didn't spend a cent up to Christmas for gifts, they didn't have any stuff they were needing but if we go out for a meal may shout it ... don't get into the gifts thing b/c after the first moment we find that they just don't use it or they already have something or they could get it later if they need it then and at a reduced price.  Did share a meal together ...

I did go out today to get some socks because they have holes on them for a New Yrs 3 day camp trip and a pair of trackpants because the others I have have s tear at the back, I still wear it at home thou not outside and wearing jeans and semi formals at the camp might be out of character ..

Well a half tear the inner white layer is still in tact. That Addidas was torn after 3 months. The older Reebok is like that too. Both may be my DIY / painting pants. Still comfy, lol.

Maybe, but even though by world standards interest rates are very high here, we keep getting told they will soon be higher so it'd be a brave person borrowing to buy wasting assets!
