networkn: Anyone know other companies that price match? The $387 S3 is what I am after.

I walked into noel leeming with a print out of the HN flyer showing the s3 at $386, the salesperson wasn't too sure if they could price match today but the manager came over and marked it down without any hassle. Also got a brother printer price matched to warehouse stationary.

xurizaemon: Tempted to pick up a Lumia 520 just to familiarise with Windows phone - how carrier-locked is the Vodafone model really?

I ordered one of the "Vodafone" Lumia 520s on HN website on xmas day for $122 delivered. Went in early today for a camera, asked the salesperson to see if they could just give me a lumia rather than post it out. The manager came over and sorted me out with a Telecom one (after I asked about the carrier lock - which BTW apparently it does not have, and can run on Telecom (according to HN - take that with a grain of salt)).

Overall pretty impressed the store was hectic as expected but the manager was very helpful and now I don't need to wait another week or so to get the phone :)

On a side note the 520 is a very capable phone (from what I've played with it so far). Can't beat it for that price IMO.

Was at NL, turns out they have the $300 Surface RT as well. Wouldn't have minded one, but my Windows 8 itch will be scratched when my Thinkpad T440s FINALLY arrives. My Christmas money will be spent on clothing instead...

Mum caved and decided to get a Lumia 520. Couldn't find any left in blue so she got the black. She wants a silicone case so I'll get a blue one of those instead.

$300 would be alright if it included the keyboard, but not at $300+$120, it's a dead platform, basically.

Woke up at 0930. Leisurely breakfast to be followed by peaceful day at home.
Will read about sales in paper tomorrow!

For a $300 32gb 10" tablet with Office and brilliant build quality, I think a lot of people are gonna disagree ;)

Work mate bought one, much to the amusement of everyone else in the office, however after having a play and comparing it to my aging android tablet, it's actually a useful tool!

Sadly tablet wars seem to be won by the number of games the platform offers, not useful functionality like MS office.

Bought a Surface RT 32GB ($297 at Noel Leeming) for brother, Panasonic 50" Plasma TH-P50ST60Z ($1398 at Noel Leeming) and Dyson DC29 ($388 + free Dyson kit from Harvey Norman)

Went at 7.30AM and it was quiet. By the time, I was done with my shopping, Te Awa/Base in Hamilton were jam packed. Queues to get into that shopping center are very long.

Do whatever you want to do man.

I feel like im missing out on something. Every year I go out to the sales. I have a good solid smartphone, good laptop, PS4. Everything I own is working. I still want to buy something though but don't know what :(

'Vodafone' Lumia 520 did not support 850 band on Telecom - hence this phone is useless on Telecom.

'Telecom' Lumia 520 did not support 900 band on Vodafone. Therefore your coverage may not be as good as phone that supports it.

Telecom version of Nokia Lumia 520 supports Telecom, Vodafone and 2Degrees in NZ including the UMTS/3G 900MHz band.

Vodafone/2Degrees version of Nokia Lumia 520 does not supports the Telecom UMTS/3G 850MHz band.
