Glad I could help.

Please note however that their Hatchling plan does not support addon domains so you would only be able to run one website off it.
If you wish to host more than one website I would advise you go for the "Baby" plan, which allows unlimited addon domains.

The difference with web hosting companies from NZ versus the US is that Kiwi hosts generally don’t oversell. Hostgator does oversell. Oversell means to offer far more bandwidth and file space than you have knowing that the majority will never come close to using that amount of data or space. They then employ special TOS lines that disallow causing their servers to slow etc. and if you used the data and space your plan allowed you most certainly would break their TOS; so while the plan might state lots of space and transfer the reality can be quite different!!

That is true, although this most likely will not affect you and most others.

Unless you have a busy website that hosts files for download I doubt you will reach 10GB in data (in a month).

They may be overselling, but for USD$7.95 per month you'd be lucky to get 20Mb on a NZ service.  These guys say 600Gb!  Even if I only use 1% of the space I'm still getting waaaaay more for my money.  Note that Waffell's servers are in the US anyway, so I'm trading like for like on the technical front.  It's the matter of customer service that was my issue and from what digitaldream has said, it's better service for less money.  Works in my books.

Yes I never said NZ servers, this of course is more expensive.  If you did want local hosting you would do a lot better than 20 MB for 10 bucks NZ

I would suggest resellerzoom.com - i have found them to be excellent and like many others they use overselling but you have the control of your clients as a parent account holder..

I've been with wirenine (www.wirenine.com) for a couple of years and found their both the plans and the support excellent. It's all trouble ticket based with automated responses followed up by techie reply. I've raised a number of tickets and been very impressed with speed of response for both low-key and major issues. My site is low volume and personal so not sure how well they would do for commercial hosting but well worth a look.
Cheers,
Mark

I'm still looking at my options.  I signed up to HostGator but although the Live Chat support is great, I've had a ticket sitting there for a couple of days now with zero response.  Anyway, they have a 45 day money back guarantee so I may just have to use that.

I'll check out the other suggestions here too.

OK, I've settled (for now at least) on a provider.  There seem to be a lot of options out there and many have subtle differences in their products and terms of service.

In the end I went with one I felt reasonably comfortable with.  I won't say which or someone will chime in with their bad experience and put me off again!  I'm sure they've all had their moments.

Anyway, I shall be getting things moved over in the next while as time allows.  I just wanted to conclude this thread with a BIG THANKYOU to those who contributed.  It's nice to know there are people who will lend a hand/ear to help.
