The community forum for the Umbraco content management system, which emails you exactly one week after you make a thread to chastise you for not marking a reply as the answer. Regardless of whether anyone's actually replied or not (which they often don't, because anything non-trivial tends to be ignored).

Outlook, which for some odd reason always thinks I have ctrl pressed for several seconds longer than I really do, so I end up shrinking the text when I scroll.

Outlook, for some odd reason, doesn't retain my reading panes layout in the search results.
3 lines of the email message in the middle.
Bulk of the selected email message on the right.
I can quickly scroll through the search results
in the middle, anything relevant expanded on the right

I was just in the middle of ordering something from a website I'd used before. I added an item to the cart, then browsed around the site for a few more minutes before proceeding to the checkout. While I was in the middle of confirming the order - maybe five minutes after adding the item to the cart - I got an email asking whether I deliberately added items to my cart without buying them, and do I want to buy them now?

Perhaps wait more than five minutes before asking that?

Systems that adjust the time when I configure the time & time zone of the system (👀 MikroTik 👀)

When I set the time & the time zone of a system, I don't expect the final time to be adjusted because I adjusted the time zone. I'm setting the correct time & time zone at the same time. Why shift the time component?

Today's comes courtesy of either Apple or HP. I printed a document. The print completed and the printer's activity light stopped flashing. I turned the printer off, and the computer gave an error even though the print had completed. I right-clicked on the print queue and chose Quit.

When I turned the printer back on an hour or so later, it started printing the same document a second time.

Dear Microsoft.

Why must I, as a human, parse JSON data? How is a non-technical person supposed to understand this?

PS I was simply trying to update a DL / group in M365.

Websites that insist on a mobile number and when I autofill it with +6421xxxxxx they tell me its not valid, so I have to change it to 021xxxxxx and it still tells me its not valid, so then I am like WT actual F? and have to stick another digit on the end because they have a minimum length as well as rejecting a correctly formatted number.

iPhone : I open the camera, switch from photo to video, and then hit record. I assume it is recording as the only indication it's not is that the timer is stuck on 0:00 which is not obvious when under pressure.

It turns out that there is a 1 - 2 second period when the device becomes unresponsible when switching from photo to video. So, the useless device lost my recording.

Server error: Contact administrator, see log for full details.
Failed to save data for content type id 1069

Yet the log - which is definitely being written to - has no mention of this error.

Edit: And then it turns out that it actually did save despite saying it failed.

Just resolved a curious bug in Emirates car rental online process.

My AMEX card expiry date is 12/24. The car rental period is June 21 to July 6. They have a secret business rule that the credit card must have 6 months to run (for tolls, fines & damage claims - I assume). So the payment web page kept telling me that the credit card company had declined the payment.

AMEX helpline was indignant - they did a dummy payment of 538$NZ - all was good - and also they had no record of any failed charge attempts by the Car Rental guys.

Finally Car Rental chat escalated it up to someone with enough insight to bring up the 6-month business rule... which should IMO only apply at check-in (and not prepayment, as I was doing) - and the error code/reporting on the website should not blame the Credit Card company for a business rule under its own control.

Or just make it plain on the payment options page.

Glad I chased it to a conclusion - would have cost me sleep ;-)

OK - bit rude to post it in this forum... so apologies, but ;-)

Geekzone main page dynamically adds a sentence 'Update paused until browser tab is in focus again'.

Which should be OK - but causes me grief.

When I return to the page - to click & hold on the next interesting thread - to drag it to another window - the popup sentence disappears, the page re-formats, the list shuffles up, and my cursor lands on the wrong spot (and accidentally 'selects' half the page).

It's maddening !!!!

Can I suppress the pop-up or can there be a same-size place-holder (maybe 'Auto-updating active again') to avoid the page re-format ?

Whoops - my bad - I never thought to check...

Any memory of what it's called - or suggest a good search string ?

Quick iPhone tip, in case you weren't already aware.

If you want to record a quick video you don't need to change from Photo to Video. Just press and hold the shutter (while still in Photo mode) and it will start recording a video until you release your thumb/finger from the shutter button. That might not be the answer to your gripe but it has saved me when trying to get a quick video of a car registration plate after a carpark hit & run.
