Key Limes are a special kind of lime native to the Florida keys and of course America's fave dessert is Pie, so they make Key Lime Pie - its like Lemon Meringue (but of course with Limes) and the meringue is mixed in with the base and then cooked.

I make it with normal Tahitian limes and its DAYMN GOOD!

Wob:
Not a big pie eater, but it would have to be a McGregors mutton pie from McGregors Bakery (funnily enough) in Palmerston (the REAL Palmerston in the SI!).

Someone else who understands the beauty of a mutton pie!
I've searched all over Welly for them, not a chance. - either the original from Palmerston, or one from Alfs Bakery in Dunedin
It's not a real mutton pie unless the bag is clear before you leave the shop! (Jimmys mutton are terrible)

I'll have to get the folks to send another load up to me, unfortunately my mates up here like them now too and steal my supplies.

where is Alf's bakery?

Godfrey's in Hillside Rd are pretty good, even pour on some worchester sauce if you like!

They might have changed hands actually - but were opposite the bowling place in Kaikorai Valley Rd.
They were definitely the greasiest around, but so good.

I had a go at making them myself a while back - turned out quite good.
The pastry is made from flour, hot water, & lard / dripping (in place of the butter) - hence no heart foundation tick!

Just found a lesson from Otago Polytech on how to make them!

Rich, moist chocolate cake...warmed in the microwave, with loads (and I mean loads) of whipped cream ...mmmm...

I also like a good mince and chees pie from Hollywood bakery.
