lol its ok, got enough to do with the organisation I am at. 25k/24hrs isn't much BUT it depends when the spike of traffic was, how many concurrents you had, how many db connections were open cpu usage etc. have seen databases grind to halt because of badly coded access routines and the like. Gut feeling would the 500 errors and the generic 'database is screwed' message that this would be a good place to start. Trick would be testing it in a production like environment to test the theory. There are free tools like OpenSTA you can use....

My job satisfies my need to create and destroy :)

freitasm: I saw that and it is a silly move, coming from a person who's already in front of the courts on the same matters...

Agreed, seems matters will be moved to perverting the course of justice.  Be a good benchmark trial too, since they'll probably want to send a message to others thinking of doing the same thing.

I think the main problem some people are have, is that sometimes(not in all the current cases though) the accusations might be wrong and the persons career will be tainted permanently due to the names being released.

Clever marketing....risky though, he may get criminal conviction or even a short jail stint, especially for that second one.

I don't think a jail sentence is even a remote possibility. A fine is almost certain but history shows this will be on the very low site.

Hell of a risky way of doing it - both in terms of legality and load...I wonder if it brought down other sites hosted by the same provider. Does give me the warm fuzzies about what I do though :)

I doubt it caused problems to other sites hosted on the same provider, unless it was a shared MySQL DB instance.

It's on Rackspace and they should have enough (and spare) capacity.

[EDIT: clearing up the confusion with WhaleOil, as per posts below]

Why do you doubt it is on Rackspace, do you think I am a liar. A Quick resolveip would have told you it is.

Also, I never did this for publicity, in fact if the Police hadn't charged me I wouldn't have done anymore, but they created the wave of interest no-one else.

Then with yesterdays post I did not break any laws at all. However the media in jumping to conclusions and linking my post with the knowledge they had to the case before the courts actually breached the name suppression. Right now every single media outlet that has been saying that I named the person concerned in the court case is in the gun.

The wording of the law is very specific. It MUST relate to a report or publication about court proceedings and it didn't, it didn't even had a link to anywhere.

The main problem I have with it all, is that name suppression is generally (yes, there are exceptions) given to protect the identity of the victim. As far as I know, the news reports haven't stated the reason for the name suppression. In two of the cases, police has stated that release of the name can lead to identification of the victims. Cam has decided for himself (with God knows what information)  that a judge is wrong in these cases and to release the information without regard for the victim.

No one is calling you a liar. Go read my reply again. I will quote it here:

"I doubt. It's o Rackspace".

Not the PERIOD in that sentence "I doubt."...

I am not saying I have doubts it on rackspace. I am replying to ScottStevensNZ who wrote "I wonder if it brought down other sites hosted by the same provider." and saying "I doubt it brought down other sites after all it is on Rackspace".

READ MY REPLY AGAIN AND THE QUOTE FOR GOODNESS SAKE.

oh please don't get all precious on me Mauricio. People make typos all the time.

Than you for your clarification.

According to the Rackspace guys the load came on and was affecting the other clients so they decided to shut me down. That is the part that makes me annoyed, there was no contact, nothing, they just did it. Mosso should have coped, absolutely.

For those interested my site is Wordpress on MySql, at the time of going down there were 15,000 simultaneous connections and the weren't releasing, or so they say. In my old Mainframe days we would call that blackholing the server and that is pretty much what happened.

Yes, I agree. But probably there is buried somewhere in their TOS a clause "if your domain causes problems for other sites we will unplug it"... And most likely they invoke this without even blinking - or contacting the owner...

In a certian someones wiki history (not the current published version) it says "In January 2010, XXXX-XXXXXX appeared in court charged with indecently assaulting a 13-year-old girl"
