The only thing different is that I have the shared driiveway way issue.Its been 2 weeks since I heard anything from Telecom and Chorus.I have signed up for a 12 month contract online for a 30 Mbps plan....... Can I cancel my contract with Telecom as I don't want to wait for another few weeks.
Last I heard from SNAP is that Chorus are now waiting on permission from Wellington Electric to use the power pole, so sounds like a bit of progress, perhaps an aerial feed is on the cards again. But the wheels of bureaucracy do turn slowly...
Telecom has a new deal with network company Chorus that will let it will begin marketing ultrafast broadband to homes with overhead phone lines.
Spokeswoman Holly Linnell said Telecom had signed up 1000 customers to ultrafast broadband (UFB) since it launched a service for the 100,000 potential customers with access to UFB in April.
A complication arose because Telecom does not have a phone service that runs over UFB and so still needs to rely on copper phone lines to deliver a voice service to customers.
About 30 per cent of homes are connected by overhead phone lines but the Resource Management Act often prevents Chorus from installing additional lines to connect homes to the UFB network unless it takes away the copper line at the same time.
Chorus spokeswoman Anna Skerton said Chorus would deploy dual overhead lines where it could and a "hybrid" cable that would combine both a copper phone line and fibre-optic cable for UFB in other situations. It would also put UFB underground where necessary.
Each installation would be decided on a "case by case basis", she said.
Linnell said Telecom was pleased with the resolution. "We are glad the process has been simplified for customers and we expect there will be an increase in interest [with UFB]."

Sorry, didn't notice your question. A couple weeks ago when I asked, SNAP said I could cancel if I wanted, not sure about Telecom though!
Partial resolution, chorus restored the aerial copper feed (not sure what happened to the aerial trespass issues) to the house and SNAP connected me with DSL in the meantime. Talking to the worker, he said he wasn't sure how long the hold-up with fibre would take to get resolved, but said it wouldn't surprise him if the issue ran into next year...

Zeon: What is this traffic management plan stuff I keep hearing of? Sounds pretty BS to me.
my guess is that they cant just block the road when and where they feel like it while they're stringing up the new cables and have to ask the council for permission?

Any Development in a area weather it be overhead/underground telecommunications or Electricity requires council planning premissions this can be Traffic management policies, Planning premissions similair to when your building a house etc. Processes and what is/isn't alloud changes from council to council which makes it worse. And they may be required to submit a traffic management plan regardless weather or not there is a impedance to the traffic flow which needs to be approved.

I have been moved to an ADSL connection and Chorus is waiting for Council consent on installing an aerial feed for my Fibre connection.

Any full or partial closure of a public road requires a traffic management plan which may or may not need the approval of a local authority or the involvement of a 3rd party to assist with traffic management depending on the scale of work required.
