mentalinc: Your sync is identical to mine, Assuming its some limit with the cards in the cabinet or the modem?

For 998, the following limits are set on the DSLAM:

ikanos linecards are limited to 70000/30000 a step up from 70000/10360 on 997.

Broadcom linecards are limited to 100016/51200 a step up from 71680/10360 on 997.

Information is given to RSPs for operational purposes. It is not intended to be publicised to end users as the schedule can (has, and may again) change.

The same thing happens with power companies, road works etc.

They say you won't be able to use your driveway tomorrow, and then they don't do anything the next day, but the day after they do. Still it's better to know rather than to not know. And it's nice to have a bit of warning, just like suddenly finding yourself not being able to get out your driveway is annoying, not being able to get on the internet is annoying. Sure it's not forever, but it's still good to know.

With both power companies, and road works there's multiple parties, and yet there's still communication. I don't understand why there can't be communication myself. To my mind, roads, electricity, water, internet are essential services these days.

Except that the band plan change from 997 to 998 is basically unimportant. It's a technology update to bring us into line with other regions so we're not painted into a corner chipset wise.

It's _nothing_ like a dig schedule for sewerage pipes, It's NOTHING like your power going off at some stage in the next couple of weeks.

Here's an example of how much I personally believe this... My DSLAM was scheduled to be upgraded within the first 5 days of the process but due to a small issue it didn't get done. I raised this with Chorus, they figured out what the problem was and developed a solution and asked if it was urgent to reschedule the missed ones quickly... I didn't even consider that it might be important any my answer was (I swear)

"Nah, I don't care, do it at the end if it's easier for you... In fact I don't even need to see an updated schedule urgently, just as long as all the ISAMs affected by this issue are in fact rescheduled for some time"

There's a phenomenally low chance of the upgrade leaving a user unable to connect as well... There is a quantified number of lines with modems that _might_ have issues, but that number is low double figures.

All that publicising the list would do is generate calls and complaints from people wondering why their neighbour is being upgraded on Day X and they are having to wait an extra 2 weeks, or some other crazy things.

I'm happy to stipulate that you, and probably most people on here wouldn't be "those guys/girls" but trust me, it would happen.

@Talkiet, how long can some spark customers expect to way to see the full benefit of the 998 upgrade? i dont need to know exactly when but a completed by aproximatly xyz would be nice seeing as spark customers seem to be one of the only ones who cant get line speed at the moment.

I'll see if I can get an indication tomorrow and report back. It won't be too long but until I speak to the engineer and tester involved I won't hazard a guess.

Bear in mind we're only talking about a tiny fraction of people here, and the affected people are going to be those ALREADY getting 50-60Mbps VDSL connections. If pretty much anything else pops up that requires the resource being used for the BNG profile changes to support this, I can tell you what is likely to get bumped :-)

Fair enough - me too... But same basic answer. I'll ask and if I get a clear answer I'll report back, but anyone that's likely to benefit is already getting 10Mbps up which doesn't suck.

Sounds like DLM is doing its thing tuning, your profile still showing as a 17A?
I'd probably give it a week or so to see what it settles on.

@hio77 i had a resync at about 4am this morning. my SNR has gone from about 15.3dB to 14.4dB, ive lost 4bps download yes bps :) but my net attainable has gone up to 107/32

If im not mistaken he was actually on one of the rather high speed 8b 998 syncs.

4bits i would put down to margin of error essentially.

attainables eh, why bother looking at them. The one figure i would be interested in, is if your powerlevel suddenly dropped. I Suspect DLM is slowly pulling back powerlevels where appropriate, would make sense as your still capping out by lower snr.

transmit/receive power are both still the same at 14.5/-10.1dB
