JoeyNZ: Previous tenants took the power cord for the chorus modem too. Sigh...
This is more annoying than anything else, as you will need to log a fault and get a tech out to supply the ONT Power Supply.
Chorus also won't take direct calls as it needs to come from the current ISP, and since there is a disconnect order in for the end of Feb it's going to be a pain the ...
Best plan is to get hold of the previous tenants (if that is possible) and ask them which ISP they were with and track down the ONT power supply and put in your own router in place with generic credentials and you should be away. "if it were me" I would offer them cash to see if that helps to grease the wheels for them helping you out.
Otherwise it will eventually be sorted but it might happen until after the disconnect order has gone through at the end of Feb.
Possibly what could have happened is the old tenants are taking a while to move into their new place and wanted to keep the line active until they moved in. So they didn't want to disconnect the old line until the new connection was in place as they would get a early termination or something.
Good luck, as I suspect unless the previous tenants play ball you will be waiting a bit or just getting the second line connected to at least get you going.
Is your ISP able to offer an ADSL/VDSL connection while you wait for the fibre to be conneted? I know some ISPs (definitely Slingshot, Orcon and 2 degrees) will set you up with it while you wait for fibre. Might be slightly different given that fibre is already available at your place.
I think Chorus turned off the copper when they put in the fibre, but not sure.
Bigpipe has been useless so far, going to try Skinny and see if they can get it installed faster.
Previous tenants were students who are now scattered to the winds, so not expecting much help there via the landlord.
Again, thanks for the help everyone.
Having dealt with this situation before - BigPipe should be able to get in touch with Chorus and explain the situation and get them to contact the current ISP to try bring the disconnection order forward. However, at the end of the day if the other ISP does not bring this forward, there is not much you can do unfortunately.

Bigpipe = Skinny ;-)
Ah sh... Well, at least I'll be able to call them. Every response from BP (email only, of course) gives me a new person who doesn't seem to understand. "We can't wait until we can switch you over!" "It's not a switch, I don't have internet right now"
dont restart the process
will normally just take longer
quickymart: You should be able to order a new power cord directly from Chorus - try them on 0800 600 100.
This I did not know.
"If it were me (TM)" I would do the following.
- Ring up Chorus and get a replacement power supply since if they will post / courier it out to you then you are sorted. While you are chatting with Chorus they may tell you which ISP the connection is currently with they may not citing privacy reasons but it could help you.
- Once you have ONT power try connecting any router on VLAN10 with PPPoE and a standard "username/password" for the username/password and see if it connects. You can also check out the sticky post which talks about the different ISPs and their configuration parameters it that doesn't work. Then google for "what is my IP" to find your current IP then google for "ip address lookup" plus quotes around your IP address and you will find out which ISP the IP address is allocated to. That would give you at least "free" internet for the short term, granted the previous tenants are paying for it which may be considered theft of service but you are making efforts to move to your ISP of choice.
- Then ring that ISP and ask to speak with the retentions team rather than the standard new connections and explain the story with the previous tenants and say you would prefer to stay with the same ISP rather than churning to another as the ISP already has the connection and should be able to move the connection to your account as the service has been abandoned. They could also give an indication as to when the disconnection order is in place again depending on privacy. It's also important when talking with them saying "I will just move away if you don't want to help me". The retention team tends to be more experienced reps so should be to assist.

Thats actually a good idea (a little bit time consuming but it would be worth it and a bit of fun), then once you are connected you should be able to go to speedtest.net or whats my ip and find out what RSP the ip belongs to and go from there, only down side is if it doesnt work you may need a username and password for the PPPoe Auth.
Skinny gave the exact same response, so canceling with them as well. Can't do abandonment order until the disconnection order is complete.
Chorus has a webpage for requesting power cords for ONT's, so going to try BarTender's suggestion and try and get this figured out. If no luck there will try other companies and see if they can push it forward.
Got the power cord. Tried hooking up the laptop (Win10) directly. Tried with VLAN ID 0 and 10, PPPoE username/password and skinny/skinny, no luck. Can't get an IP address. Tried GE2 but it is unpowered. Bah. Can't get an IP address from the server.
Skinny is hooking us up with VDSL until the fibre install not sure when but it's going to happen. Would still like to get into the fibre if possible, but can't seem to. Any other ideas?
Skinny should be able to contact Chorus about the abandonment, or at least find out via Chorus who the other ISP is.

It's a terminate, not an abandonment.
Problem is the timing that previous customer decided to supply their 30 day notice.
I can't really say much more on it than that here.
