cyril7: Good point Sam, and as I see (looking at Chorus SAT) it Tokomaru probably ends a few hundred meters up the road from the OP, so possibly he is on Shannon and the neighbour on Tokomaru, hence the issue.

Cyril

Ahh good point. If he can tell us how far he is from Stevensons engineers we will have a better idea. But like I say broadband is pretty good out there so would just get them to try anyway.

InspireNet have gear all over the place so is probably a good option.

The plot just thickens......what do you say about this

Me @ 201 Vodafone customer since May 2011
my neighbour @ 203 Telecom customer
my friend @ 353 Telecom customer

We are ALL ON THE SHANNON EXCHANGE, TOKOMARU is a Toll CALL ...LoL

Just didnt get any staright answers yesterday from vodafone they were just excuses because they didnt know themselves.

The Shannon exchange does not support thousands of people as its just a samll rural town. I have been waiting 6 years for the exchange to be upgraded, and once upgraded it would support broadband to my area.

I was supposidly on a waiting request list with Telecom, and when the upgrade went throu I would be conntacted .........it was upgraded September 2011 & appears only Telecom customers are on Broadband ???

My neighbour at 203 was contacted by Telecom & accepted broadband & my girlfriend up the road at 353 Makerua road (even further away from the exchange) was contacted by Telecom in December....

hmmm no call to me ..............Conspirisy or coinsidence ?? I moved over to Vodafone in May 2011 and have not been contacted, but as a vodafone customer I cant get Broadband.....and Telecom customers can.

Its not about speeds for us we are just internet users & are happy with our fast dial up speeds we currectly get via our mobile braodband. I just want more GB for the same price so the children can use the internet for homework assinments, I am on a budget like most & $50 is my spend limit & wireless broadband is out of our pricerange.

There is absolutely nothing stopping Vodafone using that equipment. If they can get a telecom line they can get a vodafone/telstraclear/slingshot/orcon/bob,jim & freds ISP. Anyone can use it. There is no favoritism.
I don't know they situation in shannon as that isn't our area. But I can say with quite a bit of confidence there won't be a port shortage.

My experience dealing with customers from all the different ISP's tells me that vodafone get things wrong quite a bit. And not just vodafone but slingshot and therefore callplus are pretty bad too.

Maybe sign up with telecom on a no contract plan and then swap to vodafone if you want their cheap pricing?

I can confirm it's Chorus that has made the call not to connect the Broadband up not Vodafone,

If Chorus won't connect it for a Vodafone customer then they won't for any other ISP,

The neighbours must of got the Broadband before they set in rules about line lenght

The same answers were provided to you yesterday by Vodafone

Oh I so do have to laugh, Its chorus fault, speak with Chorus & its the ISP !

An independant wholesale company have tested my line (which my neighbour is also on) & have confirmedtheoretically it should be possible, they obtained data through their portal which integrates with chorus.

So when my neighbour was connected with Telecom in October 2011 CHORUS had no rules on distance from exchange, but they have now ?

So not fair, I think maybe the cirteria that vodafone sets for their connections is a lot higher than telecom.

Upset, & giving in !

Chorus is saying No. Telecom do not own the network as of December 2011 I explained this by PM

It may be possible but performance will be poor so Chorus don't want the complaints about poor speed / line stats maybe

Vodafone would be more than happy to connect you up but its not us saying " No "

Every connection by Chorus must met specifications.
If those cannot be met for any reason then they will not install.
For example one of my suppliers can't put in a test vdsl line.
vdsl has a min spec of 5Mbps Upload, they sync at 4.9.
This means Chorus will not install it as they would be breaking their contractual obligations

Hi Donna, as I see it there are two options for you, either one of the WISPs that were mentioned earlier in the thread or purchase a external 900MHz cellular antenna and a suitable 3G router and improve your current Vodafone 3G service, or through the vodafone RBI.
