Hi, sounds like you need to be moved to a Chorus wholesale connection on the cabinet as per steve biddles blog.

Cheers
Cyril

johnr: I live in Bayview and speeds are great just on Pemberton Ave

Fiance is just below you, down the bottom of Manuka Rd and gets around 17mbps since the cabinet was installed late last year, a huge improvement from the 4mbps previously.

Sounds very much like the OP is still hosted off some LLU equipment in the exchange.

I didn't think slingshot had any LLU gear? Unless they use the compass stuff. Again, my guess is imbalanced cable pair. Kills adsl like no tomorow.

Yea considering you have consistently degraded performance I would think it could be the whole LLU connection through a cabinet problem. Ask Slingshot to switch you to Chorus Wholesale and your speeds should improve 10 fold.

Yes VDSL2 is available, that Hosting Direct deal is pretty good and considering you are on Slingshot I presume price is important? If service is important like at Unleash or maybe Snap for middle of the road.

They had 100 unbundled exchanges as of November 2011.

Some is their own gear, some is a sharing arangement with Vodafone.

The tech guys had visited today and he could not find any problem, so quite obviously it is the cabinetisation cause some kinda influence to my LLU signal...so i m waitting for the negociation between slingshot and vodafone regarding the switch...hopefully i can switch to vodafone cabinet without extra charge~ and keep my slingshot 100G data allowrance~ Money Mouth

again~ thank you all and happy new year~

Its not quite that obvious since Slingshot should have already fixed that after the first complaint if LLU was the problem. What did Slingshot say when you told them about the fault? Tell them you are getting 1.3megs line rate status on your modem, not just a speed test. Means its about either the modem or the copper wires.

At least you problem will be solved. I'm not as lucky as you, I'm living in a pretty dumb spot, 1 road away from a cabinet, and edge of exchange. Don't think my speed will ever improve.

I'm disappointed that slingshot is not able to pickup these problems since it should be quite obvious with the information they have available, and no amount of work on customer's side will resolve a problem caused by design of the LLU service.

furymonkey: Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I'm trying to solve connection speed of my own.

Probably best to create a new thread detailing your line stats, location, modem, ISP, and internal house wiring, and see what comes from there.

may i ask which ISP r u with?? cheers~

Will this make any difference?

Are there other providers in this guys area with DSLAMs?

I'm in the same street, getting:

ADSL StatusModeStateUp SpeedDown SpeedSNR MarginLoop Att.  ADSL2+(G.992.5)SHOWTIME130400076680001917
One thing I've found is that performance seems to be somewhat dependent on the ADSL modem you're using, I used to use a Zyxel and found that some time in 2010 the performance started dropping until it was only just connecting (can't remember the downstream speed but upstream was 128kbps, which was really painful).  I tried a few others and got varying speeds, currently on a Draytek 2700 (but then another 2800 with slightly different firmware gets around half the above figure).

In the last... dunno, maybe 6 months, something has changed about the DSLAM used because when I check the stats:

  --------------------------- ATU-R Info (hw: annex A, f/w: annex A) -----------
   Running Mode            : ADSL2+(G.992.5)       State                : SHOWTIME
DS Actual Rate          :  7668000 bps   US Actual Rate       :  1304000 bps
DS Attainable Rate      :  7668000 bps   US Attainable Rate   :      326 bps
DS Path Mode            :  Interleave    US Path Mode         :  Interleave
NE Current Attenuation  :       17 dB    Cur SNR Margin       :       19  dB
   DS actual PSD           :    17. 8 dB    US actual PSD        :    12. 5   dB
   ADSL Firmware Version   : 121201_A
  -------------------------------- ATU-C Info ---------------------------------
Far Current Attenuation :        5 dB    Far SNR Margin       :       12  dB
   CO ITU Version[0]       : 0000494b       CO ITU Version[1]    : 00004e53
   DSLAM CHIPSET VENDOR    : < unknown >

the DSLAM chipset vendor can't be identified and it used to be Broadcom, so there's different hardware in the DSLAM.  I assume this was part of the VDSL upgrade last year.

If you want to try things with different hardware, I've got two other ADSL modems I keep as spares that you could try.

I was under the impression LLU was the better connection to be on?  eUBA being the next and UBA being the worst.

But I don't really have a clear idea of what any of that means apart from the fact LLU stands for Local Loop Unbundled....But I may be wrong about that too.

This guys area's has been cabinetised, he should be terminating on the gear in the cabinet but instead his line is passed through back to the exchange and suffers performance degradation because of the stronger signals in the line bundle from the cabinet.

Read sbiddles blog post linked earlier in the thread.

I don't live too far from there myself but I have to say the Chorus tech's in Glenfield are the most useless and uncaring bunch I have ever met, More interested in moving along to the next ticket than actually solving any problem.

I would strongly recommend that you request Slingshot have you Migrated onto the Cabinet due to excessively slow speeds.

Without a direct request from your ISP to do so it becomes a bit of a messy situation especially considering tech's couldn't care less about speed or at least that's the impression I have been given from the tech's in Glenfield.
