khull: Ascent would be my first stop for service and quality I go with them for large value purchases. Next would be pricespy.co.nz but be aware of dodgy sellers.

Paradigm PCs and Computer Lounge have made my purchases hassle free over the last 10 years. Would recommend both!

Plus Computer Lounge has a fantastic forum for pre/post sale inquiries!

Not always the cheapest, but their service is the best in the business.

ascent, computer lounge, playtech, pbtech, paradigm pcs, dragonpc <- all good

tastech <- gets a lot of crappy reviews now, used to use them but can usually find a similar price in one of the above stores.

HTPC / Home automation (home assistant) enthusiast.

I use Playtech these days. Never had a problem with them. In saying that, I have never had anything faulty from them either so cant comment on warranty claims. Never used PBTech as there shipping is expensive

I usually use Ascent, Computer Lounge and XP Computers. I prefer to pay a little more and get good service, particularly if you get unlucky and need to RMA something.

nope - but gives you an indication on how much you should pay for an item so you can bargain

Always Ascent... They might be a bit dearer from time to time, but the customer service makes up for it.

Another +1 for Ascent. I've bought a _lot_ of gear off them over the years, the only time I've ever had a problem is when they sent me an IDE instead of a SATA drive, which they quickly sorted out without a fuss.

They also don't charge for shipping as they get their suppliers to ship directly, so take that into account when pricing things, it's VERY unusual for anything ordered to not turn up the following day.

ComputerLounge can sometimes be worth a look for some more expensive items as the prices are sometimes better, but if there's not much in it, then it's Ascent every time. They're also very prompt and helpful if you ever email them with a query.

PB Tech can be good for the odd bargain. PriceSpy is often a good benchmark, but take into account that some of the sites on there don't accept credit cards, and some of them lean a bit towards the Mickey Mouse end of the spectrum, which is usually reflected in the reviews.

Ascent gets my vote too. It's always my first preference but the prices can get a bit too high if you are buying a lot of gear. Computer Lounge has always been very good for me too. They price match and the forums are great for pre-sales questions or after-sales queries.

I liked Playtech, until the first time I had an issue. They didn't resolve it so I won't be back.

PB Tech, I will never touch with the end of a dirty barge pole. They left me several hundreds of dollars out of pocket and with a year of arguments. Like many places, the test comes when something you get is faulty (or in my case, dead on arrival) and how they handle it.

It seems without a shadow of a doubt Ascent is the best in New Zealand, I've never seen a computer retailer with so many good reviews from it's customers, not one bad word so far except for pricing but their extended warranties make up for that in most cases and almost every single person has mentioned them as one of their preferred and mostly always as their favourite.

Thanks to everyone who has given feedback on who they use and like, you've all been very helpful.

I've used Elive.co.nz, Computerlounge.co.nz & Ascent.co.nz Found them all to be great! I look for the best price on the product I want between these shops, they are always super quick and reliable, had a couple RMA's with Computer Lounge, all were handled smooth.

Computer Lounge is widely regarded as the best computer store in NZ.

Only 5 rated store in the store rating thread at GPForums that's been going for 5+ years
Winner of PriceSpy store of the year 2011
One of their flagship gaming systems recently won the PC World Editor's Choice

Ascent and playtech are also good stores, but IMHO CL is undisputedly the best in NZ.
