I looked at the chorus website, and when I click on the 'show adsl2+ cabinets/areas it highlights the area where I live.

You don't need to click that, just look at the "ADSL2+ Details" section below those links, it should say: Service Area: xxx/Exchange OR Cabinet: xxx

The Chorus website says that my area is:
Service Area: AVD/Exchange

That does not sound like the 'cabinitised area' mentioned above, or am I not reading this correctly?

You are correct.

So your place is near the edge of the cabinetised area? (the area colour matches the colour where you clicked on) Your line might be running together with nearby connections that are cabinetised so their stronger signals would be causing noise on your line. Also worth eliminating any possibility of house wiring issues by getting a master filter (or splitter) installed as others suggested.

I have to say 5megs is a very good sync rate for your distance from the exchange, probably caused by the low noise margin set by slingshot. If you talk to them again, tell them the problem is "throughput" speed and not the "sync" speed. Either way, slingshot should be able to increase the noise margin so that you get a slower sync speed and hopefully at least 2 or 3 megs of throughput, because it seems that phone lines over 2km long really need to allow for the background noise, which is why Chorus never set noise margin at less than 12.

I noticed there are lots of data errors on your xDSL stats, so have you given your modem a full power cycle recently? Your stats said it hasn't been rebooted for 27 days... Switch it off for at least a minute and then switch it back on again, wait for it to connect up and then check what throughput speeds you are getting on the slingshot speedtest.

Time to find a new industry!

The speed tests over the last few days have not dropped below 1mb, mostly between .1 and .3mbps although sometimes even below .1mbps.

Im thinking there may be some issues with the modem itself, do the stats suggest anything possibly?

Wow (Output Power (0.1 dBm): 0) this dosent look right, either your modem/router is faulty or you are just to far from the exchange.

Try taking your modem to your friends or familys home that has good DSL connection and see if its your modem/router. If you dont experience the same issues like what you have at home, than its not the modem, you are simply to far from the exchange, you gonna have to find a unit that will support copper tail extension of more than 1km or as suggested move to chorus equipment bit more $$$$ than getting an mid range enterprise gateway.
