We are capable of vdsl here I've checked the telecom website.
What router stats do you need?

If those are your speeds, but you are in a vdsl area, then most likely your home wiring is poor and getting that fixed would put your speeds up to over 10Mbos down

In your browser go to 192.168.1.254 , this is your modems web interface. On the menu at the side click 'Broadband Connection'. When that loads you'll now see 'DSL Connection' under 'Broadband Connection', click that. In the top right hand corner, under the '*Telecom' logo, click 'Details'. Then copy and paste that info here, for example here is mine:

With 31 dB down you should sync around 12 Mbps max. way outside VDSL2 coverage, attenuation indicating 2 km or so cable run.

So here's my stats but this is off wireless but I've run speedtests on both phone jack points in the house both wired and wireless and there is basically no difference wired from either jack point and both pc's are now running wireless at approx 0.7up and 2.7 down....Can you tell me if installing a new jackpoint right from the telecom box that comes into the house (right outside my bedroom window) to the bedroom (where my pc is located) would achieve any better results and or would a master filter really improve a hell of a lot. I am in Levin and not in a VDSL area at all and have been advised that UFB is approx 2 yrs away (from Telecom).

Ultimately I feel there should be better speeds within the house but need to be able to justify the price of a new jackpoint and / or master filter (or is that splitter) to my parents (as temporarily living with them for upto another 6 months) and these speeds are killing me as often can't stream very much without having a at times very lengthy delay for buffering.

to put it simply, you are too far to get vdsl, so that isnt an option.

your line should be capable of more, so theres a good chance your line needs some work


get a splitter installed will be your first step. that should bring your speeds up. for any media playback, ild highly suggest going wired if at all possible. while speedtests might not show it, in constant streams, there will be far less chance of interference causing jitter or pauses in your data transfer.

Why are we all told that these services are available to us when they aren't? Why aren't people.told that a simple fix could be simply having a master installed??

my brother had similar speeds, all he did was install one of the new ac capable Netgear modem/routers and his speed went up to 12 or 15 mbps

different routers have different chipsets, different chipsets are more or less compatible with the DSLAM and thus sync differently.. the fact that your brother used a ac router doesnt make any real difference.

could have also moved from an adsl1 to adsl2+ router..



you could be wired to the exchange when you should be going to the cabinet (although very highly unlikely), could be a wiring fault causing a higher attention, many options - first step would be to get a spitter installed so it cleans up your line.

Calculator - take off some overhead, and 31dB is theoretically around 12Mbps. Of course, this is assuming ideal conditions etc, and there's more to it than that, so is by no means a definitive answer. But assuming everything is in reasonable condition, it shouldn't be too far off.

Okay so boiling it down, getting a master splitter installed should theoretically get my down speeds at around 12mbps and allow us to stream at the best quality without interruptions?

Without the need for any new routers or upgrading to the VDSL package that telecom is offering??
