Hi michaelmurfy, I was reaching the same conclusion myself, however the existing router has been working fine for several months (the router was brand new at that time).  The issue started about a week ago and despite performing a factory reset on the router the problem persists.  2degrees are wanting $190 including shipping for a Fritzbox (the one they shipped me I returned to them but they don't have a record of me returning it).

If I resort to a new router I'm tempted to just change providers and get a free one. :-(

But it's frustrating that it needs to come to that.  I'm convinced the issue is fixable, I just need to understand which setting(s) could be causing the issue.

Do you have to have IPTV enabled?

Hi trig42, yes I do.  Custom mode set.  10, 11, 12 for Internet, IP-Phone and IPTV VLAN ID's respectively.

Is there any security filtering/proxy functionality on the TPLink that you could try disabling temporarily?

Are your network devices forwarding DNS queries to the TPLink? Either way, try changing DNS servers on one of the devices. Try 1.1.1.1, and one of the 2degrees servers shown in screenshot (test separately)

Hi OmniouS, there are no port forwarding or security settings that I can see.  The DNS IP addresses are currently set to Auto (from ISP).  Setting them to the values automatically set makes no difference to behaviour either.

ISSUE RESOLVED.

The first two 2egrees agents I spoke with were pretty dismissive as I wasn't using a Fritzbox.  I called again for a last ditch effort today and spoke with someone who diagnosed and resolved it.  2degrees still had me provisioned for a static IP address (which I cancelled some 2 years ago).  Despite configuring the modem to use dynamic IP 2d were still issuing me with the static IP.  They've obviously made some technical changes recently as it seems that was the cause of the issue.  As soon as the agent removed the static IP, I was issued a new one dynamically and the new IP address worked 100% fine.

So no modem issue at all.

Lesson: Talk to several agents until you get one curious and persistent enough to look more deeply into the issue.

Thanks all for your input.  Much appreciated.
